It does appear that SWA has lost its way. GK is not a visionary or multi-tasker if those are the right words. Everybody's hedging, gas is expensive, the SW affect is over. But, there may be some on here who enjoyed their time on the mighty FLUF. |

My personal opinion....if Delta is miffed, it's mostly due to the added international partnership between Alaska and Emirates (they have a motherload of airplanes coming online aiming to take over the planet with the capitalization, low tax base and cheap fuel out of Dubai to do it). After all, hasn't Delta management repeatedly justified the Alaska code share with "no need to buy the cows when we are getting milk for free" and all that based primarily on them feeding our growing international gateway at SEA? If the milk is now being shipped off to other vendors that sets a very bad precedent going forward. Maybe Delta launches some experimental flights to gather data and send a signal to Alaska before having a heart to heart with BT at Alaska about what happens next. Information is power. Let's see what happens.

It's difficult to imagine any other reason why Delta would suddenly begin routes that it hasn't flown since the late 1980's with mainline equipment, and which directly compete with Alaska. At the end of the day, Alaska is a 125 airplane airline-hardly a behemoth. I don't think it would take a lot to drop some capacity on those routes and kill the yields. A few bad quarterly reports and you'd be looking a a much cheaper acquisition. Personally, I hope we don't buy Alaska. I'd much rather see us grow internally and provide our own feed with our own crews. |

Doesn't sound right. If you read the redacted purchase agreements between Boeing and SWA, there is clear language that other 737 models can be substituted - and each msn has a deadline date for that. Also Boeing's 737 line flows based on orders and output and not on sub-fleet type.
Not to get too far off but there's plenty of loose talk at SWA of the 739ER. As to the 900... 20 minute turns? You'll need two of those long over the wing jetways from Albany and even that might not do it. http://utabby.com/vimg/01/2Zn1QX004BQ.png |
Apparently the first flight of a DC-9 was 48 years ago today.
Pretty incredible that the thing is still flying people around in the USA. Someone posted a first flight video: Douglas DC-9 Series 10 - "Rollout & First Flight" - 1965 - YouTube |

Alaska has 15 partner airlines, 13 of which are international flag carriers on the West coast. JetBlue has 23 partner airlines, 20 of which are international flag carriers on the East coast. DAL should probably get used to the international feed from AS and B6, rather than getting "miffed." My opinion only, but these partnerships will only continue to grow. Sucks for DAL, but reality, just more reason for DAL to buy Alaska and JetBlue, staple all the pilots and sell the pieces, then Gloopy could get some sleep (just kidding Gloopy).

I'll take your word for it. Seems more likely you should be able to swap.

Can we still call the 737 a FLUF? I mean, it's not fat because it's long. And it's not little because it's long. Ugly is in the eye of the beholder, I think it has an ugly nosewheel but otherwise is alright. The last F is up to individual.
