Think the plan is mass displacements, off the 320 and ER, due to more 90s coming online. The Mad Dog will be plenty staffed this summer I'm betting.
They say they do not plan on posting openings on the 88 on the next AE and do not need to post openings for Summer 2013 flying. As to displacements off the 88, they think enough will bid the 717 not to have to post displacements. If more than enough AE off the 88, then they may even do some backfilling if enough bid off. But right now, the 88 is overstaffed.... at 10 pilots per plane. |

According to the March Crew Planning newsletter, the M88 is currently overstaffed on both the A and B positions even with the additional 13 MD90s coming (135 pilots in M88 staffing world).

So we are just going to see the pains of ALV+15 materialize then?
Basically we sold ALV plus 15 for a 2 hr increase in monthly line guarantee during the slow season. Yes we got a substantial increase in guarantee during the busy months but through use of a yellow slip a pilot had the OPTION to work more if he/she desired anyway so it was rediculously stupid IMO. There are money people and QOL people. The ALV +15 OPTION satisfied both but alas we sold it for cheap. We sold even more valuable seniority enhancement through the hiring that would be taking place as well. Think of how much more lucrative an AE with upgrades and category openings (options...remember that word?) is than displacements and 2 hr bump in guarantee. |

I'll have 78.5 hours for February on Reserve. ALV is 72. I shudder to think what summer will hold.
I don't know if ALV+15 will be enough to keep up with demand. I guess once we start canceling flights due to lack of pilots then hiring will commence. Only when flights are cancelled and too many greenslips are going out will the writing be on the wall for hiring. |
If anyone can pull the number of 88A's on RES in ATL a year ago vs. today I think we will see a significant decrease.
In regards to the contract, I often hear guys say that they voted yes because they didn't think we could get more. I think it's becoming apparent that the reason to vote no was that we gave too much! |

Are we putting lie flats in 757s or do they just mean the international business elite seats that it already has?
"Delta is also enhancing the sleep experience by expanding full flat-bed seating. Delta is introducing full flat-bed seats in the BusinessElite cabin of all transcontinental flights operating between New York and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle beginning in March 2013. All of Delta's Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft serving these transcontinental markets will offer the flatbed seats over the next 24 months. Delta's decision to install full flat-bed seats on its transcontinental flights complements the airline's current investment in full flat-bed seats on its entire international widebody fleet of more than 140 aircraft. By the end of 2013, 70 percent of all Delta aircraft will have flat beds and, in early 2014, Delta's entire widebody fleet is scheduled to be complete."

The 75er's are getting lie flat seats as well. All about consistency of product.
That's what I read. The 757-200ERs(ex TWA birds) that we use mainly for Transcons, as well as some Africa & Europe destinations will have lie flat seats installed. |
There are three steps before hiring that haven't happened yet...
1. Lots of cancellations for lack of crews 2. Accuse the pilots of a "sick-out" 3. Blame it on mil leave. As far as I know, only NWA used that last one. |

Correct. And some 767ERs will be reconfigured in a high density configuration for island destinations out of Japan.
