Its just as you said. The BOD reduced Moak's salary.

APPLAUSE!! PRESS RELEASE!!

But wait. There's fine print. His total compensation went up?.
  • Gross Salary: $360,647.00
  • Total Compensation: $576,968.00

Why am I not surprised?

Typically the total cost to employ someone is 35% over their salary. That's what I've heard companies budget before for corporate pilots. Here you're running at 60%.

Let me see if I can find a "you decide" if that's worth it pic... nope... found this one for 80 though!

BUT...what did the ALPA President Pay do?

Kept right on going up, as if nothing had happened, I think THAT is what irks most of us! I don't blame Lee Moak for all the bankruptcies, that happened before he even took over as the DALPA Chairman.

OH, BTW, Lee Moak can't hold the 777 at Delta, yet he's pulling in about DOUBLE what the Delta 777 Captains are and he now has a Retirment Plan just wee bit better than our 401K plan.

Oh, and before he ran for ALPA President, he WAS on the ALPA Compensation Committee, and he also said he wasn't interested in holding the President job when he voted to increase that pay...

How much would a 777 Captain make if he worked 365 days a year? When Lee was on the compensation committee he spearheaded the effort to reduce the compensation for the officers, at least get the facts straight. By the way he also supported this last BOD which further reduced officer pay for the next few years.

All pilots work 365 days per year minus vacation. There's this thing called inverse assignment. They could call me right now. cmon, Alfa, really?

I'll do the quick math for you on what a 777/747 Captain at Delta makes:

DALPA says the "Average Pilot" gets paid 87 per month. (I'm well below average I guess)

OK, 87 x 12 mo. = 1044 hrs. pay per year, x $250/hr. = $261,000./yr.

If you add in a 30% override for Medical and 401K contributions (which is wayyy too high now that we don't have a DB plan) it's another $78,300, for a total of $339,300/yr., at least $200,000 BELOW what the President is pulling in.

Comparing seniority list jobs with non seniority list jobs....pointless. Just like pilots that transition to management.....apples and oranges. If you desire those more than go for it but arguing over their comparisons is fruitless.

Wasn't there a rumor concerning us acquiring some Kingfisher jets?

15 leased planes from Kingfisher so heavily cannibalized they may only land in scrapyards - The Times of India

Anybody who leaves his phone on and or answers it when they don't want to fly deserves to fly. Modern technology is a wonderful thing. Dude, pilots don't work 365 days a year, in fact I would bet the average for DL pilots is around 15 days a month.

I do agree his pay is high and out of line in my opinion, but that is something we as the voting members need to set. I would set it at no more than 10 times the lowest paid ALPA pilots guaranteed pay. If he got regional FO pay up to 45k a year, he can then have 450,000 a year in compensation.

As far as CEO compensation is concerned, it's somewhat of different context there and depends on what you consider the role of our union, or the government. I consider a business to be extremely profit motivated, whereas unions and governments the focus is more on the represented indivuals be it citizens, or union members.

I guess on some level our union is run like a business, and that is a fact that bothers me at times. I drifted from the original topic and took it out of context.

I do feel as though our union's president is grossly overpaid.

Union presidents, politicians and diapers should be changed frequently, and for the same reasons.
