Check,
Can't speak for anyone else, but my posts are not to slander or speak for ALPA v anything else. They are to illustrate why it is important to double down on ALPA and work from within, use the organization and its structure to protect ourselves from what is coming at us, and a lot quicker than most want to realize. Just using the latest EK event to show that even though one may not like a few or many things that ALPA has done, ALPA PAC in this case is the best insurance your money can buy. My question was more directed at alfaromeo I guess. His non-sequitur response to the Emirates announcement was to bring up DPA and blame it on Lee Seham. Can you answer the question for us about 5th freedom? How is this new EK route possible? If Emirates can fly Milan to New York can Delta fly London to Tokyo? |

1. first guy to bring up Hitler or accuse other of being a Nazi 2. first guy to tell the other he can just quit if he doesn't like it. When someone expresses anything negative or dissatisfied with the company, and you respond, "well you can just leave"... Come on, there are 5,000 other guys on here reading this thinking "tool!" Really, the next step is just shooting folks who "don't like it here", you Nazi! ;) TEN |
Back in the day, well prior to Bankruptcy, the ALPA President made an average of what the top 3 ALPA Airline Capt's. were paid. Then UAL, DAL, NWA, US Air, CAL, and most of the majors went bankrupt, oh, and lost their pensions as well...
BUT...what did the ALPA President Pay do? Kept right on going up, as if nothing had happened, I think THAT is what irks most of us! I don't blame Lee Moak for all the bankruptcies, that happened before he even took over as the DALPA Chairman. OH, BTW, Lee Moak can't hold the 777 at Delta, yet he's pulling in about DOUBLE what the Delta 777 Captains are and he now has a Retirment Plan just wee bit better than our 401K plan. Oh, and before he ran for ALPA President, he WAS on the ALPA Compensation Committee, and he also said he wasn't interested in holding the President job when he voted to increase that pay... |

How is this new EK route possible? If Emirates can fly Milan to New York can Delta fly London to Tokyo? That's a great question, and I'd like to hear the answer too. Just to make sure I understood Fifth Freedom Rights I Googled it and saw this in Wikipedia under Fifth Freedom (emphasis added): Fifth freedom rights are typically meant to help airlines serve long distance and/or not heavily traveled routes and they are often viewed by local airlines and governments as potentially unfair competition to their primary (third and fourth freedom) international traffic rights.[18]:33-34 The negotiations for fifth freedom traffic can be lengthy because in practice the consent of at least three nations is usually required. So it would seem the US would have to approve this route.... |

Lee Moak and all the National officers DO contribute to ALPA PAC. Our Reps contribute to ALPA PAC. We ALL need to contribute to the PAC. I give $42 per month. A mere 50 cents per credit hour and you too can help fight the forces that are attempting to destroy YOUR career every day! Alpa > ALPA PAC It stinks that this is the way it works, but wishing it wasn't like this won't change reality. |

ACL,
I certainly see the need for ALPA PAC, and please don't mistake my gripes regarding ALPA as means to support DPA. I'm clearly in support of DALPA over the DPA as far as credibility and professionalism goes. I won't disparage or comment on the amount or quality of work done by ALPA national leaders such as lee moak. I will, however, express my displeasure with the amount they are compensated. Seeing as the president of the United States makes approximately $400,000/year, I find it somewhat hypocritical for the leader of a blue-collar labor organization to make make $500,000/yr. I find it egregious that a union leader makes more then the American president. I'm a firm believer that a strong leader should lead by example. I know I'm arguing two different points here, and your point is well taken. It behooves none of us to not support the PAC, and I will reconsider my position on that. I just think the direction of the PAC should come directly from ALPA national without the additional need of member donations. I do agree his pay is high and out of line in my opinion, but that is something we as the voting members need to set. I would set it at no more than 10 times the lowest paid ALPA pilots guaranteed pay. If he got regional FO pay up to 45k a year, he can then have 450,000 a year in compensation. |

I am not scared of DPA I am just wondering what it would take before they stop draining off support and resources from a fight to save your job. Tim Caplinger is still a young guy who has a long career ahead of him. No matter what, I will be able to skim through the rest of my career and be okay, I could retire tomorrow and make it through. When will Tim and his group realize that he is working against his best interest in having a job 10 or 15 years from now? My question back to you would be, who should be more concerned about the future of this profession in the next 20 or 30 years, you or me? |
