Prior to the merger, compass pilots were hired to NWA qualifications, now to Delta standards. That seems very reasonable, I don't see where the hostility comes from. I'm not attempting to spread half truths, and the extreme few without a degree, if there are any still, are competent pilots. I would have no problem putting my family on a compass airplane. I've flown with dozens of captains and I never felt unsafe. I also never pretended to be so superior to my peers as to ask for a diploma to verify their credentials. I may be mistaken, but you are a former compass captain (no disrespect if I'm incorrect in this assumption). If so then you should know that the qualifications to perform as a great captain (the position delta is hiring for) is nearly unrelated to the place of your collegiate beer drinking activities. Compass seats are filled with young guns, military jocks, and experienced ole' timers. Delta will benefit greatly from the new blood that will soon be interjected into their ranks.

 

I'm looking forward to a day when we have more pilots voting who understand and care about scope sales. I welcome the fresh blood in that regard. Also, maybe the flows will bring us guys who don't just read the printed materials and rubber stamp this stuff through base on propaganda. Less bobble heads.

I know there are quite a few Delta Pilots without degrees.

I still think the flows should be held accountable to the highest standards, in the interview and probationary year.

PS. If there is a so-called pilot shortage looming, believe me, the standards will be dropped or flying will be outsourced. I think back in the '60s UAL was hiring no time pilots.

 

Let me get this straight; if I don't vote the way you do I'm a bobble head ?, and seeming I am among the majority that means most DL pilots are bobble heads. I thought PD was arrogant but you just surpassed him. You can voice your opinion and displeasure about all things DALPA, DL, and try to sway opinions by presenting other options and many on APC do just that and I respect their input and have modified some of my thinking because of them. Or, you can mindlessly post garbage which you just accomplished.

 

Northwest required a 4 year degree for as long as I can remember (mid 90's). My understanding is that Compass pilots were hired to Northwest standards, so I'd be surprised if there are many at Compass without degrees.

 

If there is a need to narrow the field down, a college degree can be used as a screening tool. It has nothing to do with the ability to fly an airplane. There are numerous examples of outstanding pilots who never got a college degree. Chuck Yeager, Wiley Post, Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart. Dick Rutan got his college degree 16 years into his USAF Career - well after his many military flying accomplishments.

Amelia Earhart got lost! I don't see why people always say what a great pilot she was. She flunked navigation 101.
