a few years back in the wee hours during the cold months, one of our DC3s was on short final to Escanaba ,up in the UP ,when the landing lamps revealed a herd of deer crowding the runway right on the approach end,a go around was initiated and the deer scattered , frightened by the bellowing of the Pratt Whits,a second approach was subsequently successfully completed whereupon a freshly deceased 8 point buck was noticed just off the runway, apparently its back broken by the Douglas's tail wheel during the missed approach, the FO who happened to have his hunting knife with his kit quickly field dressed the aforementioned deceased buck, tossed it in the back of the 3, and flew it back to Pontiac, and his meat locker, and another tale was added to the ongoing saga of night freight.

RCC 13-02 memo. Just threw up in my mouth again. Company has ALPA selling the propaganda hard again. Nice charts and graphs showing exactly the facts they wanted. What they really want is to continue the Airborne Reserve reroute program and 2+ hour sits everywhere to have ground based reserve line holders. If the contract miraculously increased the trip rigs, you would see the block times fall right in line with the rigs. I gaurentee it. Please stop the sales job.

So if some pilot claimed the world was flat, and the MEC directed ALPA to research that claim, but ALPA and DAL both subsequently studied the issue and determined it was round, you would throw up in your mouth on that one too?

Happened early in 1986. We were also in the process of converting to the F-16 at Moody. Collapsed the nose gear and took a hard left.

At Selfridge ANGB in the early 90's, our two-seater hit a doe and fawn on landing rollout. No damage, but both deer didn't make it. A few weeks later, professional bow hunters were allowed on base to cull the herd. Maintenance techs had deer sihlouettes painted on the intake.

I hit a deer with my truck on the way to work one day at 55mph without hitting the brakes. I did it on the county line and I knocked the deer over into another county. But nobody knew which one of three counties the land belonged too.

Three days later I get a call from someone very excited to get the deer... I guess there's a list. I know Massachusetts out of all places has such a list.

Anyways, $55 in damage to my F-150. Had I had my wifes Honda Accord that we had at the time, I'd be dead. I got rid of that thing soon after. The deer was big and I t-boned it.

You got it backwards gerbroni. Pilot says world is round. 4th floor says, no way, it's flat. Sends ALPA to sell a "flat world 2012" to the masses. 63% of the pilots believe it is in fact flat.

Flamer's certainly into lobbing grenades most of the time, but I have to wonder what the purpose of the memo is. More specifically, why this type of memo isn't being put out by Flight Ops. If they want to explain why they don't want to do certain things, let them. If we want to politely say we deserve better, then let's do that. I don't see the advantage in us carrying their water in establishing a rationale for their actions.

To the extent it's part of the overall communications effort, it fails.

How about: "...We've asked for more efficient rotations. To their credit [no pun intended], the company did agree to model it. In some cases, there is a cost associated with these higher quality trips, and the company chooses not to incur that cost. We will continue to encourage them to do better, and we recommend that they provide the group with a rationale for their choice..."?

EOS.

I wouldn't let your feathers get too ruffled. I honestly believe he's so far off the reservation on most issues(commuting is a choice for example) that I think he personally is one of DPAs best recruiters.
