There are times when missteps need to be criticized, but this is not one of them. Did you honestly think that we had a crystal ball and all present and future headaches with the change to 117 would be easily and instantly dealt with? Only in internet message board la la land. Give both your company and union a break and allow at least a couple of months of glitch-fixing before you unload on them.

Pilot miscue = ASAP.
Company miscue = ASAP protected pilot demanding perfection and wanting grievance filed.

I agree with Herk. On something like this we should cut them a little slack.

Not having a crystal ball is a poor excuse for inadequate analysis and planning. I don't work in crew resources nor am I the FAA expert on 117 but anyone even slightly familiar with the situation realized the new rules were going to require some more bodies. His post made no reference to this just applying to DAL, but this is a thread about DAL so that's the usual topic. Being overly defensive seems to have blinded you to his point and that the decision to delay hiring when they knew 117 was on the way is now causing some of the pain. That's not to say the same decision would not have been made by the company in hindsight: there were objectives they were seeking and those might not have been realized had they hired sooner. Sometimes it's OK to accept the facts as they are; it doesn't mean you're anti-company, or anti-union, just pro-reality.

Reserve question for everyone:

Let's say you are in the 2nd or 3rd bucket and there is a trip you want to yellow slip. Will will scheduling award the trip to pilots in the 1st bucket before they award your yellow slip?

They have no crystal ball for hiring, but they did for changing the bid months, cutting profit sharing (insert other concessions.)

If your days of availability match then your yellow slip will trump the pilots in bucket 1. If it's a 3 day trip and you are good for 7 days and there are pilots in bucket 1 who are 3 day guys, then the 3 day bucket 1 guy will trump your yellow slip.

It's completely crashed. No one can sign in for trips, or obtain flight plans. Lol.

And I'll assume scheduling can't assign trips to reserves either!! :D
