I think part of the problem is that the Fourth floor is looking at the EFB in aircraft terms - they look at an upgrade for the airplane as a 10-20 year investment, they also want for it to pay for itself in a year or 18 months.

The problem with tech is that 2 years is an eternity, especially with tablets. I mean, 4 years ago there was zero market for them. Now, Apple is shipping millions a year.

I flew with an LCA last year who said, "oh, we're getting them".. I said I didn't think so - it doesn't "do" anything that our paper manuals don't do. Essentially it's a $5 million dollar purchase that doesn't do (as far as I can tell) anything that we aren't doing right now. Yes, they don't have to pay Jepp to do revisions, but I bet Jepp prices the cost of the software right around the same price, maybe even higher.

As for Windows RT, if you look at market share, Windows RT is just a small sliver when compared to iOS and Android. It's not in anyone's economic interest to develop software for Windows RT when it's such a small percentage of the market (when the cost of developing for RT is probably the same or even higher).

I understand why management picked the Windows RT device, when they look at pure numbers - but the success of the iPad ensures that it (or some form of it) will be around in 5 years, where the Windows device might not make it to 2015.

So then in a year (when it's finally rolled out) we have a device that possibly isn't even built and no one supports. Excellent. :rolleyes:

Is it just me, or does anyone else find the Thanksgiving "meal" given to us insulting? In Atlanta there was a table of bagged lunches with a poster board taped to the wall(looked like someone's kid wrote it) above thanking us for working. What if anything did they provide in other pilot bases and AMS & NRT? How hard(expensive) would it have been to have a hot buffet line in the lounge or elsewhere for the employees working the holiday? Hell, a $10 voucher like they give passengers would have been better. Btw, I know southwest had a hot buffet going and personally saw what LCC had in CLT.

And if the company was too cheap to do it, why not ALPA? Could they not have used some of the money they always seem to have to cater their meetings and social hours?

Is "insulting" the word you would like to use?

I look at it as a very weak gesture to do the bag lunch, but I find it preferable to nothing, which is what it used to be. In a way, this is like saying to someone "kudos" in a non-genuine way. A hot buffet would certainly be a classier approach and seem more genuine. Personally, I'd prefer double time on holidays.

Is there talk about switching to Surface PRO?
Not really knowledgable about all these tablets, but I hear the PRO is a much better operating system. Seems like Ipad is the way to go. (At least everyone else seems to be going that way)


Also kind of a random question, but anyone know why a pilot's forecast seniority number would show in the negatives? My last 2 years is showing up as negative numbers Can't really wrap my brain around that one.

Ok, how about low class? As far as "Is it preferable to have nothing?" For me yes. Did I eat the sandwich? Of course, I'm a pilot and it was free. That doesn't change my opinion of this weak attempt of appreciation.

I am thankful I was off this year but I remember we had hot buffet last year at two different stations. Maybe Delta couldnt afford it this year due to the FAs getting Holiday pay:confused:

I was at JFK from 1230 to 1400... There was an "appreciation" table but no sign of anything ever being on it.

The best pilots in the world walk through those doors though. ;)

Does anybody think that Nick Saban had his worst managed game ever? I would swear he was taking advice from Mark Richt. Mizzou also looks like the real deal. It should be a great SEC Championship game.

Yep I talked to someone that said it was a real thanksgiving dinner in MSP with hot buffet style meals.
