I understand that, but what I meant is, even if you are not on reserve, as soon as you sign in for your trip at the airport, they can and will re-route you to fly something you didn't bid and didn't want, so you are effectively on short call, without being on "official" short call.

Nope. Vacation Slide is an option in PBS. As long as you don't try to slide outside of the bid period, and you can hold all the slide days off, it will process the slide and then the rest of your bid. I usually do a few else start nexts to make sure I have a contingency plan.

Gracias senior. I have never done this before (Man.. how long has it been since you've heard THAT???). ANd it might seem a silly question, but do you usually do the slide as a first preference?

Is sitting in a business class seat for 3 hours during a noisy meal service, filled with PA's, rest?

I think Delta needs to buy out the top 5 floors at the Hilton on Virginia Ave. and put all the crews there for 10 hours prior to every sign in!
Is laying naked on vibrating bed in the UnComfort Inn off Virginia Ave with a $50.00 sack of quarters while rubbing peanut butter on your nipples and watching two prostitues reenact the final fight scene from the last Harry Potter movie considered rest?

I always put it at the top of the bid group. Not sure if its required to do it that way, but it has worked out well for me doing it like that.

I usually put:

1. Start Reserve
2. Slide Vacation -6 days (or whatever you want to do), Else start next
3. Rest of bid

Then in the next bid group you can tweak the slide to something else that's acceptable, and so on...
