LOL... I'll hazard a guess that this is the standard scenario with these sorts. It's a Fable, of course, but the lesson is sufficient toolage can crush reasonable push back:

1. -- FO says, "It's getting hot back there, I'm going to crank the APU to get some air for them"
--- CAPT Savefuel reaches out and blocks the APU switch saying, "The FOM says to start at D7 or after, it's not that hot out, no reason to burn extra fuel, we'll delay a bit."
Q: Will the FO continue to try to get his junk done early and some air to the PAX, fighting the Capt's attitude?
A: 90% no, 10% may give it another try.
2. Engine #2 is started, time to taxi. Capt reaches out and cuts off APU bleed and APU, then reaches back over and swaps around the airco switches for #2 bleed weakly feeding pack. Looks at FO and says, "We'll do a Crossbleed start, no reason to keep the APU running... it looks like there might be a bit of a delay, this will save us some fuel."
--FO considers how hot it already was, and while turning the #2 pack down colder says "M'kay. Tube is pretty hot back there though, gonna cool it down a bit."
-- CAPT reaches over and moves the #2pack temp switch back to the T, where it was just seconds ago before FO moved it, "Just leave it at the T, ATT works fine on every jet, it'll cool off shortly."
-- FO decides to try one more wee challenge, since Delta is paying him to be there and all, "Well OK, normally that works pretty good, but you can see here the temps are already spiking up to 120, and there are like 5 marks here in pencil where FOs have noted this temp dial works good down lower than normal..."
-- CAPT, "ATT works fine. Just wait."
Q: Will this FO continue to offer advice and experience, and try his best to make the flight and pax-experience good? Will this FO continually look up to note the temps and keep them adjusted nicely for the flight? Will this FO ask a question on somthing he THINKS is right, but has a small worry he might have missed something?
A: 97% no, 3% yes while thinking "Douche, I'm turning you into ProStan if you keep touching my switch."
3. Taxiing out, crossbleeding #1 engine. 30psi in duct supposedly works well and various writings say expect 30%rpm will do it... With 20% in duct, and RPM coming up slooooow and stagnated at 19%, FO asks, "Can you bump it up a bit, only getting 20psi..."
-- Capt bumps it up 1% and says, "It'll come up in a sec", so another 20sec gets eaten up waiting for pressure.
Q: Will FO continue to challenge Capt and suggest timing improvements or speedups of the checklist because he's being forced into delays?
A: 99% no.

Nu, it's marginally fictional above, but the basic gist of it is true and always the same: it's the same guys ignoring your inputs from the time they set foot on the jet, clearly showing that every switch change and checklist start will be initiated by them, who decide to crossbleed all starts and who tell you not to start the APU on taxi in until they tell you to ... then forget.
At some point, the answer will be "No, I stopped telling the Capt his continuous disagreement with me and delays, and crushing of all my initiative, was not conducive to a good CRM team environment and was making me rushed."
When it's 1 or 2 guys out of 100, and they're always like that and all the FOs know about it, the answer is NOT that the FO failed to speak up... the answer is the guys is an a$$clown.

And yeah, I usually am that 1% that keeps pushing for the whole 4 days figuring he'll either ease back or crack and laugh at my jokes. Sometimes a "Hey, this temp switch keeps moving, are you fighting me on this switch when I'm not looking?" works. Haven't had to put anyone on my do-not-fly list, but yeah, we have a Capt Crossbleed out there ;)

Long ago and different a/c but just used to say I'm hot or stuffy and we need another pack now and just did it. Personally I appreciate an FO who says hey getting hot in back and just starts the APU on his own.....

I thought starting it without asking was our cultural norm here.

note that's not a question, just act like it's normal and soon it will be.

Geez, do we really have guys like that out there? Personally I want to get the AC running as well as it can BEFORE it gets hot and stuffy... There is that passenger comfort deal....

If he spent his time worrying about his own ****, he'd be a much better pilot and CA. i know the LA guys who frequent this site know exactly who I'm talking about.

Yep, just one guy really here too. Maybe kinda 2. Like I said, just 1 or 2 out of 100. I see folks point out all the time what a great group we mostly are, and truly, 99% of guys I fly with are great guys and enjoyable to spend 30 hours locked in the flight deck with and 3 or 4 days hanging out.

That's why when someone starts reaching over messing with the temps, most fo's are like "Hey! They only give me one switch I'm in charge of, why do you keep touching it when I'm not looking? ;)

Well if some one can't let the FO start the APU when he notices it getting warm in the back they have some extra issues . That said I do expect to it be announced ,i.e. hey I'm starting the APU it's hot.

"It's such an easy job, yet some guys works so hard at fking it up."

That's how I do it. It's getting hot bro, mind if I crank up the APU? 99.9% will say "yeah, go for it." There's .1% that'll reach up and turn it off, "nope, too soon." Same ass that blows AA's **** across the ramp trying to taxi out heavy weight on one engine.

Hey guys, as a new hire (and new to the airline world) what important Delta computer programs are Windows only, vice Mac? Bidding software? What about the ground school / systems cd? Anything else?

Microsoft is a Delta business partner. We have a loyal and devoted group of fruit computer users who develop work arounds, but Delta management is becoming more specifically anti apple as time goes on.

We are supposed to get Windows RT (yeah RT) devices given to us which will run all of the Company's apps: (pick an answer)
  1. October 2013
  2. December 2013
  3. January 2014
  4. March 2014
  5. Test folks might get them in March 2014
  6. Who knows?
  7. Jeppesen may simply refuse to develop an RT version of it's EFB
  8. Microsoft may pull the plug on RT
I nearly bought an iPad Air, but management came out and said they will not support that device and it will not ever be approved in our pubs BYOD program.

So, if you are computer shopping ... save your money and hope the Company issues you a bright shiny Surface 2 in new hire class, or shortly thereafter. Welcome aboard.

(disclaimer - I'm an OS agnostic running a version of Linux and can run anything on my free, stable, and clean OS)
