Not sure what you mean, but I'll take a stab at answering your question. There are millions of people out there that believe every bit as strongly in creationism as pagans do in... well.. whatever it is that they believe in. They also have money to donate towards a museum. If that's what they choose to do, that's their choice. I would rather they do that than to have a mosque to be built within eyesight of 9/11 ground zero. You tell me which one is more offensive or ludicrous.

Nor have I seen anything about this museum. I am really not that interested...

Fig,

There was an infamous thread on the DALPA boards about that a few years ago. I never read it but it had hundreds of replies.

Then again, that was when Pilots actually went to the DALPA board.

I axed this question on another thread but does anybody have any idea about information on lifespans of retired pilots. I know there is some data out there, but I'm too lazy to type it in Google....

There's no such thing as retired pilots.

Generally, the data is ambiguous. Smoking cessation, better screening for disease, healthier choices have skewed older. Making it past the danger years, around 65, mean probably making it past 80. Retiring earlier seems to portend longer lifespan, making it past that time. I have a very smart Dr. friend who claims its probably 75 percent genetic, the rest environmental.

This paper doesn't specifically address the question you asked, but is interesting just the same.

Is there any data for polar flying pilots?

I've been asking ALPA Aero Med that question since...before it was subbed out, they told me they don't track pilots after they retire, it would violate their privacy.

Meanwhile, I know 5 Delta Pilots from BOS who all had Glioblastoma and died in their mid 50's. It's supposed to be a very rare brain cancer...but that seems like a high concentration for such a small group (Delta pilots in BOS), and those are just the few I know personally, I wonder how many other pilots nation wide get it.

There have been studies and there is some data, but overall mortality is affected by many factors. An increased risk of certain cancers is not enough to impact the overall mortality rate to the point where one can make an accurate conclusion.
