Well, it was bound to happen eventually. A Skywest pilot used KCM in SLC and flew to Calgary with a .38 in his bag. Canadian security discovered it on the way out. So it's an International incident too. Not good for the KCM program... I nominate this guy for TOTD.

The question was about the flights to Brazil from JFK.

We have applied for both Rio and a second frequency to Sal Paulo. The Sal Paulo service was supposed to start last summer. We were denied the route. We also tried to up guage the current Jfk-Gru route to the 747 and again it was not approved. Routes are awarded by category of aircraft to Brazil.
The second frequency to GRU would have been very good for ER guys because they would have flown both with the 300ER vice the 400 on the one route. Sao Paulo... not Sal. ....and I know all of that. I would be willing to bet that those routes could be purchased if we really wanted from somebody that isn't using them. As a matter of fact, if memory serves correctly, part of the slot swap deal with USAir was a route authority to Sao Paulo. The thing is though is that it is never spun as you describe. It is always spun as ATL being on the direct routing from NY to GRU. This is not untrue, but as a NY guy it is frustrating. Actually, what would probably be a better route authority would be MCO. TAM has a monopoly on that going south, and lots of Brazilian kids want to go see Mickey Mouse. |

That is only allowed if none of the duty periods of your GS trip fall on X-days. It sounds as though your first duty period is already on an X-day.

If the SKY pilot isn't an FDO, then he deserves to spend some time in jail. If he is an FDO, then he should be one any longer. |
New crew resources update just posted:
Tidbit: "As Delta’s West Coast presence continues to grow, there were rumors the 717 would be flying DTW-AUS-LAX. While we do not have an LAX 717 base, the DTW 717 pilot base would be able to support this flying. After several weeks of back and forth, it has been determined that the 717 will NOT fly this route at this time. The Network Planning group continues to look and analyze all opportunities for the 717 and we will provide updates as they are known." Then why does it still show a 717 flying it in Travelnet and GDS? |

Sounds like a weapons charge. The cannucks don't mess around with firearms charges either. I was riding with my highschool girlfriends family in the 80's to their cabin in Canada when at the border my girlfriends father said no weapons at the crossing when he was selected for a random search, they found his shotgun and rifle he was bringing to the cabin (maybe to keep me inline....). After he was indignant to the judge and legal system in Canada during the arraignment, he spent a night in jail and paid a stiff fine to get out. Not sure if he ever got his guns back either.
