As many like to say on this board you have to "connect the dots" so I will add a few dots.
The new hire number has been upped again this year I have this confirmed by a someone in the new hire program. More and bigger classes coming in June.
As for where is the lift coming...think utilization rates as much as air frames. They will be pushing these rates even more this summer. So we will find the lift but that probably won't fix the DCI shortfall because of our own staffing issue. Talked to a person down in ATL who works with staffing that says we will have problems flying our own summer schedule let alone trying to pick up the

True, but costs to operate RJ's is going up one way or the other. Either the majors will pay more for the lift so that regional carriers can pay their pilots more, or majors will begin to operate such aircraft themselves at a higher cost. To the extent that this is the only way to continue to operate RJs long-term, each major carrier will face this dilemma and find its own way to realize the added costs or face a reduction or total loss of the ability to offer RJ service.

Quick question about getting out of a trip to OE. I'm flying a trip later this month with a LCA. I'm hoping to not fly it, but still get paid. There is no one assigned to it right now for OE. When I pull up the LCA's schedule, it says LOE to the left of the rotation in icrew. Does that mean he has made himself available for OE or that the training department plans on assigning him OE? I'm wondering what the chances are of me getting out of this trip. I know I have no control over it, but I might try and trade trip for one with a better overnight depending on the odds.
If your name is Russell G., you can stopping checking my schedule. Wait until a few days before.

Regardless if you want to bring this flying to the mainline you don't merge those airlines. You sunset the contracts and transfer the aircraft. Much simpler and cheaper.

True but bring that to the mainline and all your costs not just pilots go up. I know the forum experts can cost this out in their heads and prove it's cheaper but airline managements world wide have also costed it out over and over and always come up with a different answer.

14 years ago we asked Leo Millions why we couldn't fly the RJ's at mainline. His answer was, "Even if we paid you the exact same rates, you still cost 30% more than they do, because of all the other benefits you get." (this was pre-9-11 and bankruptcy, when we still had a DB retirement plan, better, cheaper medical plan, etc.)
So, yeah, they've done the math, and it 'pays' them to keep whipsawing the regionals against each other to keep the cost of that feed at rock bottom prices. You need look no further than what Richard just did to Pinacle/Endevour to see what's coming re. regionals/feed, etc.
Offer their pilots a flow up to mainline and presto, cheap labor and a very cheap training pipeline. If they can't fill that pipeline, well, too bad, so sad, should have thought of that before you raped all the RJ pilots.
I'll bet Boomer and his buddies would have liked to have a flow up right about now.

LOE on the LCA schedule means the LOE scheduler has designated that trip for an OE. You can check about 2 days out for the name of the person getting the OE in the remarks section of the rotation. Regular scheduling will call and release you the night before the trip to make sure no one has wicked out. Then you can stay home, white slip, or green slip during that time. Caution, sometimes the OE scheduler will not use the whole trip and you'll be on the hook for the beginning or end.
