In any case WRT to the whole DCI sitch, can we at least, finally, all collectively admit we were never going to re-committ/heavy check/re-engine the world's largest 50 seater fleet? If for no other reason than lack of pilots? Can we at least admit that?
Or, if we can't admit that, at LEAST admit that if we did attempt to do that, the current management team would be in major hot water over an already imploding decision with a million articles in every stock feed about how it was one of the biggest blunders of the modern age?
We don't have to admit, accuse or even allege that anyone was duped or any bluff was fallen for or could have been called or whatever. But please can we finally admit they weren't going to re-engine the world's largest 50 seat RJ fleet and finally put that rhetoric behind us?

I don't keep up with the RJ stuff like I used to, but at one time Delta had the largest CF34 overhaul facility on the planet.
There is a 50 seat market. Some (probably about 120 or so) will stick around long term. The rub is that the 76 seater brings in > 50% more revenue at similar ~ 10 to 15% higher block hour and trip cost.
Bombardier and Embraer are good at keeping Delta's secrets. That' part of the deal. I am suprised Delta has not executed the order allowed under C2012 scope, after all gettng the large RJ's as swaps was a major part of that deal ... then, nothing.

The C Series is supposed to be very, unreasonably expensive. I don't see them being able to discount it to where it needs to be for us to pull the trigger on another fleet type…especially a -100 A model media car lithium ion paper mache Guinea pig like that. The 737-700 could be on order tomorrow if BA wasn't so arrogant. That or the 319 would make way more sense. I wouldn't touch the C Series vaporware jet until its been flying for several other airlines for years. Good fuel numbers (supposedly, IF it comes in on spec), comically high price and extremely questionable reliability from a company that still can't even get its own Dash-8 Q400 right. I just don't see DL jumping into that unless they almost give them to us to build street cred.

Short call question,
In my "Bucket", I am the most senior and there are 4 people junior to me with no short calls or flight time for the month. I had a carry in trip worth a little credit. How did I get the short call for tomorrow? I thought it was inverse seniority within your bucket and days of availability?
Thanks

14 years ago we asked Leo Millions why we couldn't fly the RJ's at mainline. His answer was, "Even if we paid you the exact same rates, you still cost 30% more than they do, because of all the other benefits you get." (this was pre-9-11 and bankruptcy, when we still had a DB retirement plan, better, cheaper medical plan, etc.)
So, yeah, they've done the math,...

How about the 25 billion or so in acquisition costs, capex and strikes?
I'm still not believing outsourcing is all that great a deal for Delta. No discredit to you. I never liked Leo or Fred.
True but bring that to the mainline and all your costs not just pilots go up. I know the forum experts can cost this out in their heads and prove it's cheaper but airline managements world wide have also costed it out over and over and always come up with a different answer.
Absolutely!!

So a discredited airline manager high on outsourcing told you a decade and a half ago ... same guy as crashed and burned Delta while spending a lot of his Executive's time engineering bankruptcy proof compensation packages for themselves and their buddies ... and we (labor) still buy it?

The RJ whipsawing philosophy gives them negotiating leverage against we Mainline guys too, just look how quickly we caved on low pay raises (4833), profit sharing give backs, and more 76 seat RJ scope in C2012! All Richard had to do was threaten to "Re-engine" the 50 seaters.

A few months back we mentioned a guy in mil unit getting hired with the cjo and then the next week getting called and "woah there we have a problem with your psych eval..."
Apparently this has happened to several folks and we were conjecturing they might have to meet a board or something. Turns out to be easier.

It was the most intense and aganizing three weeks between the time I recieved the snail-mailed letter and the CTT phone call from the hiring department. Analyzing every one of the 600 odd MMPI questions and every word uttered on the couch, or was it the chair? Guess I chose poorly....
