Unlike you, who are probably fairly new, most employees are established with families and the last thing they are going to do is move or commute. After 4 years of commuter hell I promised myself never again.
It's my opinion that the company would be better off staying staus quo on bases/equipment, push for fences to minimize training events, and build bid packages to fly whatever to where ever during a transition period. They hate credit time here but it can be the least bad option. They've been in an all out rush to do everything here and the network guys are chomping at the bit and spring-loaded to move into action. Often times it's much better to just wind the clock and let things unfold. I think they do care about the employees, but we have to make a profit. They can't make new bases yet and see moving the equipment to different routes as the easiest method at first. We'll get to DH to start the trips but they'll apply the same logic to the combined fleet that they did to the DL fleet when Glen took over. BTW its not just the old guys that have families. Some of us newbies do as well and like all type As we hate to feel out of control; but it is what it is and we should be excited about the possibilities. No, I haven't OD'ed on Kool Aid, just like it that we have a plan to succeed. |

Agree. I understand the being established part. I have all of that and then some, but the fact is that it is totally out of my control. I do not worry about it. It makes like a lot easier. Maybe a forced move will be a good thing. You never know.

I would not mind MSP, and even DTW has some very nice areas out to the NW, but I agree. ATL offers cheaper housing that the other two.
I would probably not move, just commute, and not from ATL. I just expect there to be a lot of movement the first three to five years of this deal. There is enough stress already, and God knows that we as a group do not need more. I agree that living in base is the best way to go. A 40 min drive beats the pants off of a two hr fly after sitting in the airport for a few hrs. Lot less stressful too. |
I know. Any I was a causality of the DFW deal. Fact is that many on VA now admit that it was a mistake to leave. I guess hind sight is 20/20.

Some of you are getting all worked up about hypothetical situations that haven't even happened yet. Whats going to happen is going to happen now regardless of what we let our stress levels rise to. Who knows it could be all good, all bad or a mix of both. I just dont see the point of getting worked up about stuff that hasn't happened yet.

Super92.. we are getting prepared to respond to displacements that are outside our control. That is going to force some tough decisions on some families and while we have already decided what we will do, there is an advantage to being the first guy to execute than the last.
There are many factors that could make a displacement a deal breaker. Family, side jobs, wife's income, paid for property (and the maintenance of that property), etc.... |

Didn't I see somewhere that DFW was looking for more business? |
Yes, offered the same deal to DAL as they did to SWA> DAL said it was not good enough. Guess we will see if they do make the deal good enough.
At a min I see a paper base for the FA's coming. That would help a lot of people out. |
