Not to contradict but a friend is up in MSP for CQ and the ugly F word reared its head...... Basically he was told that we were staffed for summer but come fall/winter we were fat and they are considering furloughs. I hope this turns out to be false but it came from pretty high within the food chain.
I heard furloughs are coming? If you work for USAir or United, I would be concerned. We currently do not have enough pilots to fly all the block hours that networks wants us to fly this summer. The 2010 flying program is currently scheduled to be an increase of approximately 1% above the 2009 block hour program. Loosely translated that means that we will not have enough pilots for 2010 either. There have not been any decisions made at this time but rest assured that the costs of furloughs are both economic and emotional. We will not furlough unless there are compelling reasons like a full blown depression of the world’s economy–force majure level stuff. It would take 18-24 months worth of economic savings to justify furloughing someone on a financial basis – even more on an emotional justification. For now, no one sees that level of cuts coming in flight operations. Expect SILs in international categories and Personal Leaves of Absences to be granted come this fall. |

LOA's would be nice for a few, but they may be choosy on who gets em and the duration of them. |

LOL. Actually, no, lots of red eyes and just about everything goes to JFK. It was pretty good about a year ago. I think the SLC and CVG guys are ripping off all of the good trips.
I agree, they are getting the better trips. |

One thing I found interesting is that they thought the APA process would take care of the 742 stuff prior to SOC. Not sure if this will be true, but that is what they are thinking. ( If I were a betting man, I would bet this might change. The only way I see this holding true is if we cannot get all of the 757 guys in to the sims by Dec 2009, and SOC is delayed to April 2010.)
Are you saying that the ANC base may get their displacements after SOC? |
If they fly until Dec I personally would think so. They are saying it will be covered under your APA system prior to SOC.

Yuck.
That stinks. I know some would be happy about it. I am guessing that they will offer perps for some of it. |

SIDE NOTE: A number of the captains said that they are not all that interested in another training event and they would jump ship if Delta puts some cash on the table. That would be great for everyone. |
