Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Frank,
I appreciate your desire to make Delta a stronger company. I want us to kick butt, too. It's great to see the stock price go up and hear the announcements for all the awards we are winning.
But, before we, as a pilot group, agree to anything to help the company I think we have to ask ourselves if it's absolutely necessary.
With the next round of negotiations coming up, I think it's imperative for us to remember how much this gig has changed over the last 15 years, and how much we lost compared to the other employee groups. We are the only ones who had our careers transformed into jobs. IMO, through our terminated/frozen pensions, downgrades, furloughs, work rule changes, and degraded benefits, we have given more than our fair share. (Or, was it taken from us? :roll eyes: )
I think if Delta needs more -- which I don't think they do -- they should look elsewhere first.

You really need to go back and look at what happened to the other employee groups at Delta. Entire groups had their jobs eliminated and outsourced never to return. Thousands of other employees had their jobs reclassified to DGS or DSS or whatever the name is now at much lower pay and benefits. Staffing in jobs that remained Delta has been slashed. Delta's non pilot costs are well below their pilot costs relative to the industry. You really don't want to compare your pay and benefits to the non pilot employees if your seeking improvements!
I think I just took your post to the next level.
It's worthy of reposting…
As for herk and the other new guys from the military, your arrival into the airline will require something of a sea change in your thought process. Your new way of thinking has to be non-managerial and realize you are a technician pilot, not a management trainee. In commercial aviation, know your contract so you can maximize your income...don't just agree with whatever your union says is best for you. If a contract change (proposal) doesn't meet the sniff test of either giving you more money or more time off (preferably both), it isn't good.

Are you proposing that an airline can operate without pilots? Or is it that pilots are as replaceable as cabin cleaners or ground service?
I am from Chicago, but don't live there anymore. Which as you know means nothing for my sports allegiance. Go Bears. Go Bulls. Go Hawks. Go White Sox. And Go - whoever is playing the Cubs!
