I don't care, and neither should you. If what Freebird said is right, we are 25% more efficient than we were. That is enough. Again, I am not going to argue for restoration or any of that all in one fell swoop, but PBS and all the ancillary agreements made us waaaay more efficient than we were. We will NEVER be as efficient as SWA or many of the single airframe carriers, but I'll betcha a cold one we are light years ahead of any of the legacys.
You may not care how we compare against other airlines but if we are working for release from the NMB they will. It's a key component of total pilot block hour cost. I fully realize that some of the productivity issue is the result of managements fleet plan choices where they seek out every orphaned and bastard aircraft type to operate. DALPA will certainly have to make that point in negotiations but they are also going to have to provide numbers on what shortfalls are contractual verses fleet plan against our competitors.
Are we comparing ourselves to SWA? I could see where they're more efficient, for starters, they don't have a single block hour that requires 4 pilots on the airplane.
UCAL? No work rules. So I don't feel sorry for being more inefficient.
UsAir?
Who cares if we are more inefficient then they.
American? That would be interested to know.
Alaskan? I don't really think we should compare ourselves to a Delta Connection carrier.
Who did I leave out? FedEx? Cargo. UPS? Cargo.
I can live with being more inefficient and demand for more.

PBS was just under 5%. The biggest manning changes over time were elimination of the hard cap,bow wave and vacation changes. The average Block hours per pilot has increased from 600 to 800 per year. Having said that we are still one of the least efficient us airlines.

As I posted the block hour average has gone from 600 to 800 per year. Another poster mentioned the system block hours were the same in 07 as 01 yet we had 25 percent fewer pilots. That is all correct. It is about 25%.
