You are kind of coming across as spoiled. If you don't live in ATL of course you have to commute in, probably the day prior for a short call that early. YOU made that choice when YOU decided not to live in base.
You know it wasn't that long ago when commuting to reserve at all was impossible. Before we had jumpseat and short call was twice a day "windows". Be more grateful. You have more options than I ever did.

I really don't see how this even benefits the company to make reserve more difficult for pilots. If I were on reserve and had to come in the night before because I couldn't be out of contact for two hours I still wouldn't be showing up at airport any sooner.

My question is this. How do we get rid of the long term bureaucrats? (Btw we had a lot of powerful behind the scenes guys at Nwalpa too) Each LEC has a election every (3?) years, so there is a way for the line pilot to affect turnover. How do we, the line pilots help in the cleansing/turnover of the committee positions?
It may be time for alpha, buzz and the gang to take a break and go fly. Whether any of us agree with their positions, we all should thank them for their time and wish them good luck.

I'm not talking changing rules after the fact, I'm talking following the ones we have. I think I addressed the dynamics of turning a deal back - the PK of that is it just isn't going to happen, which was intentionally exploited.
It makes the seeking and following of redirection if the box drawn by the MEC for the negotiators to work within is unattainable that much more important. They were outside the box, and did not seek redirection, and it can be argued deliberately so.
As far as condescension, I don't characterize those who make a choice I disagree with as too stupid, lazy or weak. And I'd say you are far more skilled than me in framing and manipulating the discussion to suit your point of view and perspective.

AMR has the snap up to the average of DAL and UCAL and maybe someone else?
USAIR is no longer pulling down the weighted average pay.
SWA is the big wildcard - it would be nice to see them get a big increase and pull everyone else up.

Gary wants PBS. Delta got it in BK for essentially free. SWAPA pilots want a considerable pay raise for it. Gary says there is no $.
Pilots rightly are pointing to savings from PBS as well as revenue lost at the check-in counter vis a vis bag fees.
They are not budging on PBS without considerable pay increases as they will keep trips touching for now, thank you very much.
Fred Smith having same issue at FDX. Wants PBS. Doesn't want to pay up for it as DAL didn't. Then his service failures started happening and now he is changing his tune.
FWIW - at the LAX 16 meeting the above was basically alluded to - any increase in our compensation would greatly influence the compensation of our competition. This could help us out quite a bit.

All of that helps. The snap up is a incentive to our management to get it done quickly and perhaps front load the raises to bump the snap up to a higher level. Still UAL won't exceed our rates until 1 Jan 2018. 2 years past our amenable date.
The wild card is pilot sentiment once we reach the amendable date. Delta is running a very efficient operation at the present. Any reduction in the efficiency of the operation could snowball. Historically over the last 15 years unhappy pilots have had little impact on operations. That might be a different story at Delta given the reliance on min staffing. They could however mitigate that with increased hiring or a block hour reduction or both.

62%-38% or whatever the final number was, I forget now, that is a powerful democratic response that the pilots accepted this contract. If a candidate for President won by that margin it would be called a mandate from the people.

In all seriousness now as I jest above, we have long time lifers in our union for two reasons.
Money. We are all motivated by it. Face it. They have just been collecting a disproportionate chunk over the many years.
Power. And with that ego. Some are desperately trying to measure up to the successes that others they are close to in life have achieved. They will cling to power in every attempt to try and attain that.
Kick one or two legs out from the stool and the paradigm is crushed.

That's somewhat unfair. Reality is they have stepped up out of selfless/ selfish reasons or both. Out of 12000 pilots, it is the same guys always involved and that says something about us too(Maybe we need to get off our asses and get involved some). Just some shifting of committees or to rep status. They have taken the time to get involved and stay involved and know the system well and how to use it to get what "they" believe "we" should get. I think some have been doing the business so long that they have a disdain for the average pilot and how dare anyone question their judgement.
Alpha, Buzz, et al, and the unelected, long term bureaucratic hanger ons, are basicly this:
