Any sightings of the wonky (and now discontinued) Windows RT brick? Summer's about over, again...

Yes, it seems the resolution didn't get very far. If the makeup of the room was all local, I don't doubt they didn't even know the rule was changed. I wonder though, if they knew HOW it was changed (according to c20's july newsletter) it may change some minds. These counterpoints may very well have changed some minds during the negotiating, but, well....I doubt any of us even knew it was on the chopping block.
I will make arrangements for the next meeting to be there to present and get this back to what it was. To be clear, none of the resolutions yesterday even made it to the floor, as they all lacked a maker. HC actually put them all up on the screen and let us read them all to see if anyone would step up and act as the maker (which I probably would have for this one if I had been briefed and actually understood the details better). No one stood up to act as maker for any of the "ideas" therefore they never became resolutions and couldn't be voted on. Another nice option that NWA had for reserves was automatic release from all RSV obligation IF coverage was above a certain threshold for the following day, and we also had the ability to call and ask the scheduler to release us at anytime (not just 2 hours remaining in a SC ) which I utilized frequently. Bringing back one or both of these provisions could dramatically increase a reserve's QOL and should be relatively cheap to get from the company as they are only used when RSV coverage is really good - however this could save a commuter from making an unnecessary trip into base when it's a virtual guarantee he isn't going to be needed. ^^^^These are all things we should be looking into as ways to improve QOL for ~50% of our pilots that "choose" to commute. |

Before the merger, i actually was discipined for this at Northwest. I lived a 3 hour drive from airport. I decided to catch a flight that left right when my reserve started as it was first flight of morning. I was scheduled to arrive an hour into my reserve period. Scheduling actually called me as I was boarding with a how soon can you get there call. I told them the truth. Said an hour and told them what flight I was on. They gave trip to someone else and gave me an unavailable. I commuted in anyway and the flight actually arrived 45 minutes into my reserve. I was in the chief pilots office 5 minutes later (50 minutes into my short call). Figured the chief pilots would agree with me and remove the unavailable. I was wrong. I was heavily scolded and told to never do that again. I made point that if I was driving, I would have arrived even later. They didn't care. They said driving is more reliable than flying. I lost all faith in the chief pilot office that day. Now I avoid it at all cost.

Reading through the C20 newsletter, I see the discussion of how there was a misunderstanding of sorts regarding how and when the commuting rule would still apply to a pilot's first on call day. Are you reading something nefarious in what they said regarding how the change was effected?
The July 9, 2014 dtw newsletter is pretty clear on what happened, and it seems pretty messed up to me. |
I'm thinking of putting in a VA claim, but I'm concerned about the effect checking that particular box may have on my next FAA flight physical.
Has anyone done this? Was it a problem? |
