No, but I think history is fairly clear that wars don't begin because of aggression, they begin by appeasement.

Yes I said liberate, not invade. That's what we do. The only land we "invade" is the land necessary to bury our dead soldiers who came to free people. Carl |

Just a wee bit of history. Germany and Japan were both highly militaristic countries beginning with Germany's invasion of France in 1870 and Japan's war with Russia in 1905. Both countries caused death and suffering throughout the beginning of the 20th century. Japan invaded most of Asia, especially China and Korea. Germany finally gave it in 1918 with an armistice while its army was still in France.
By 1945, both countries were utterly defeated, occupied and feed only be the generosity of the US people. GIs were out on "short rats" to feed Tokyo. Neither country is militaristic today, in fact, both can best be described as "idealistic pacifists". Yes, wars change people, it just takes one side to be defeated and exhausted. Carl,
That post's theme was given to me by a serving Luftwaffe officer a decde ago. Respecting the mods, back to L&G at DL. GF |
Just about to finish this book...its a great read (with a few slow moments) and gives a good picture of the beginning formulation of the modern Middle East...kinda funny in a sad way that the British leadership of the Indian side of the Empire backed the Wahabi freaks while the Middle East command out of Cairo back the Saud family...each side despised the other but now are the source of many of the problems that we see today. The other thing to take away from it is the Ottoman Turk Empire...can we say modern day Turkey and how they fit into that piece of the world. If you notice, Turkey has been very quite, lately...their airline has plans to dominate as much as Emirates, Quatar, and Ethiad do...they have powerful troops on the border with Syria within site of the ISIS battle that is raging but hate the Khurds. I think they may eventually make a power play over there and try and reinstate a form of their previous empire. They are led by a premiere that has serious leanings towards the problem children in the ISIS ranks and has recently offered asylum to Muslim Brotherhood leadership from Egypt.
