No cable? Who doesn't have cable or sat. Positively un-American....

The roots of the nation of Israel were born in the Palestinian Mandate of 1947. The Jews (and I'm not one) began slowly buying up swampland and lands that the Ottoman Empire didn't want in the late 1800s. The Palestinian Mandate was a UN-directed cut out of land following WWII offering Jews their traditional homeland. The Arabs that were "displaced" were offered the right to remain in Israel or migrate to the newly created nations such as Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. Those newly created nations chose to reject their fellow Muslims.

Absolutely nothing to do with guns. Nothing.

Well okay, you at least admit that the land was taken from people that already lived there, who took it from other people that lived there before, who took from people that lived there before, who took it from people that lived there before, and so on for about 20 more iterations back through history. In just the same manner that some of my American predecessors took the land for my house from the Shawnee Indians, who probably took it from some other tribe. It will stay my land until I sell it or until someone with more guns comes and takes it from me. If the latter happens, it is doubtful I will ever just throw my hands up and walk away for good. Thus, the nature of the Israeli-Palestinian problem. So when someone asks me whether that land is Israel or occupied Palestine my answer is that it depends upon whose ox is being gored. The Israelis have no more inherent right to that land than any of the myriad of prior owners who had that taken from them by force throughout history.

If it has nothing to do with guns, then why do we give billions in military aid to Israel every year?

Seriously, if the UN voted that you had to pack up your crap and give your house to someone else, would you just shrug your shoulders and walk away, or would you fight for what you believe is yours? I would fight until I got a fair deal.

1) we don't give billions to Israel, we give millions. We also give millions to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. It's not a religion thing.

2) Jews already occupied what is now Israel because they bought it from the Ottoman Empire. Cash. Like a home purchase. Like your home. The Arabs, which were the minority, were offered several options. The fact that they had migrated from Arabic lands to Israel does not authorize them to claim Israel. The fact that neighboring countries would not take them in is also not Israel's problem. There are Arabic Israeli citizens.

Actually, the Palestinians did walk away rather than remain Israel, which is the problem of refugee camps because "fellow" Arabs didn't take them in.

To get the thread back on track...rumor I heard today, so I'm spreading it. We're supposedly getting 12 early production, overweight 787-8s that nobody else wants early next year. Probably getting them for about $29.99 each. Also, SD was in France last week with a bunch of 4th floor types, finalizing a deal with Airbus. Talk amongst yourselves.

I could only see that 787 rumor coming true if we also got other 787's. As in the ones we have on order in 2020. Or the pending RFP…for ones that would likely start arriving by…2020. Wait, what?

In any case, a tiny new fleet of 12 underperforming pigs that would still be expensive (just less insanely expensive) makes no sense unless we're getting more later. And sooner than later at that. JMHO.

Clearly people on both sides of the political spectrum have strong opinions and are entitled to them. I don't come here for that stuff, however, I come here to enjoy debates and rumblings about the place we all work. Would be nice if the moderators would tow the line a little and keep the partisan stuff off this board.

Wow, you're WAY off on this one Buzz. Since 1947 we've given 120.4 BILLION to Israel. 3.1B of which was just last year.

So should we have keept our troops in Iraq for 2 more years maybe 5 or how about 50?

I wonder if they would hate us so much if we never invaded Iraq?

Do the Germans hate us? We still have troops there.

I like the use of "nuanced." It seems to usually be used to describe leftist, usually from those who are trying to portray the subject as intellectual and not a leftist. It smarts because it's true.:D
