I assume this is not the case for a "short call" on the first day of availability. Am I correct they can assign it for early in the AM on the first day as long as they do it before 1500?

This is the old language (pre-C2012):

A pilot who does not immediately notify the Chief Pilot Support Center under Section 13 E. 1. will be placed on unpaid legal duty leave.

It looks to me as though little has changed with respect to the notification requirement, other than the fact that we used to notify the CPO and now we notify the CPSC. It sounds like a foul to me that the CPSC said "no hurry" on the summons itself and now you're not being paid.

And it's totally BS that your CP would have "scolded" you for not bidding around jury duty.
