T,

What I am saying is that my vote will be determined by my perceived value of the contract, and that I will not be swayed if the Union says the world will end if we don't vote yes. If I don't perceive the contract of being worthwhile I will "risk" the consequences of a no vote.If I like the contract I vote yes, and the whole "risk" of a no vote is moot.

And for the record, I did not say we had to risk something, but that we must we "willing to risk" there is a difference.

Look, I am not into chest pounding - I voted yes on C2012 because I thought it was pretty good deal considering the dismal negotiating environment we were in. By this I specifically mean the crappy contracts at UAL, AMR, and USAIR at the time. I have also voted no before.

Contract wise USAIR is gone and UAL and AMR are in much better shape and DAL is firing on all cylinders - I think we can do a lot better this time.

Scoop :)

Delta has been good to me in my recent short term disability. ALPA has also been equally accommodating and supportive. There have been some hiccups but I'm really proud to represent both.

Just about exactly how I feel.

I understand why people don't like the survey, but if you don't fill it out, you're ****ing in the wind and others decide for you.

Fair enough sir. That is what I thought but just wanted to clarify. I think that a lot on here that advocate "risk" or not "risking anything" as another way of saying that yes voters are automatically spineless wimps, yada yada yada. IOW, I don't think that having to "risk" anything via a turned down TA is a prerequisite to achieving a good contract. I didn't believe you in that camp, but wanted to be sure. Thanks.

I have used the Baymont Inn for years. Phone number is 734-722-6000. I don't know if you can get her a crew rate but for us it is about $43 out the door. I know for us we can get a late checkout of 1600. It can fill up in distressed pax nights.

It doesn't have a restaurant but a breakfast bar in the morning. The Four Points has a restaurant next door for night. I hope that helps.

If she is trying to get south out of DTW, you might take a peek at RDU as a "mini hub" to get out of there...

The Westin in the terminal. Not the cheapest but safe, quiet, convenient and no van drive. They do offer a crew rate but again not the cheapest.

How so? From the FMCSA website:

The Hours of Service rule for truck drivers contains an 11-hour daily driving limit and 14-hour work day limit.

The new provisions that took effect in July 2013:
  • Limit the maximum average work week for truck drivers to 70 hours, a decrease from the previous maximum of 82 hours;
  • Allow truck drivers who reach the maximum 70 hours of driving within a week to resume if they rest for 34 consecutive hours, including at least two nights when their body clock demands sleep the most - from 1-5 a.m., and;
  • Require truck drivers to take a 30-minute break during the first eight hours of a shift.
A single driver may log as many as 11 hours of driving in a single day, as compare to our 9-hour max for two pilots. He has a max duty day of 14 hours, compared to our max of 9-14 (not including extension), depending upon the time of day we start. He is limited to 70 duty hours per week, extendable indefinitely with 34 hours' rest somewhere in the week, while we have a hard limit of 60 duty hours per 168 (7 days).
