Sailing this is why he posted what he did. It is straight from the APA's slide show about the JCBA.

First of all, you need to read the Scheduling Reference Handbook. On about page 106 it explains how you can use payback days that you have accrued.
That being said, how long are the trips you want to get rid of? If they are 3 days or greater, you will only be able to use the PB days to get paid for one trip or part of one trip. PB days will start on the first day and then every consecutive day of the trip until they run out. Example: If you have a 4 day trip and only have 3 PB days, they cover the first 3 days of the trip. You cannot say which days you want covered. To use PB days from last year, you need to personal drop (or APD) the trip and then call up crew scheduling and tell them you want to use the payback days from last year to cover the trip. Bottom line, you cannot use PB days randomly to cover certain days. Good Luck! Denny Thanks Denny, just downloaded the Scheduling handbook now. |

How do you tell if your trip with a check pilot has some IOE being planned on it? Is it a total unknown, or is there somewhere to go that gives you some gouge ahead?
Then the IOE training schedulers have to pair up a LCA with a newb, so if you are looking at your trips for Feb, today, you are wayyy too early to see that magic L or I on the rotation. Check back about a week prior to the trip (if you are with a LCA) and they should have it figured out by then, sometimes that will change too though, because stuff happens, so keep checking, daily. Just because your Capt. is a LCA, doesn't mean he will be giving IOE on every trip and you'll be staying home for pay. |

Bear in mind, they have not yet scheduled the IOE trips for Feb. The LCA's bid just like everyone else, so nobody knows what they are flying next month until the bids come out, and that can change if they swap/drop/WS trips.

Also AA has a lot more 777 than DL. I think pay banding (*banded higher rates) is a must on this next deal.

Also keep in mind that many of the LCA will bid RSV schedules. It gives the IOE schedulers a lot more flexibility to get them on trips compatible with their needs and, in most cases, the LCA gets to fly better trips than their seniority would normally let them hold. I am speaking from my experience on the A330. The larger fleets my be different.

When they bid reserve it's a true win win situation! Both the CA and FO can get bought off the trip!
