Someone would convert out of seniority in front of you, and you would not be pay protected.

Normally if you were bypassed you would be paid your new rate. If you're bypassed to keep your vacation, you would not be paid the higher rate.

Thanks. I just looked it up in the contract too. That's what I thought but wanted to make sure.

I think I figured out two other reasons why sick leave increases in Spring. First, allergy season. It's kicking my butt now and I think I am about to bang in sick If things don't improve.

Second, coats are no longer required March 1st. Can't tell you how many shivering pilots I have seen on jetways lately.

So I just read the domestic augmented crew clarification that I found on the surface. Did I miss the discussion? Is the company contemplating this?

Apparently - but as of now, the only domestic airplane that has approved crew rest seats are the 757s. (the domestic 767s don't). Of course, the 767-300ERs do as do all the international widebodies.

Something like JFK-SLC-JFK would probably work, I'm sure there are others. Back a while there was an intense discussion about it around the time FAR 117 came into effect - comparing the cost of 1 CA and 2 FO to do the turn vs 2 sets of crews plus hotel. I forget how the discussion ended, but it seemed like a wash with the penalty that pt. 117 has - where you can't take off on the return leg if delays on the first leg will push you over the time on the 2nd leg. Or something like that.

In the end, I can think of only one airline that does this (I think Allegiant does their Hawaii trips like that), so I would think that some of the more cost conscience airlines (like Spirit) would of already be doing this if it saved money.

How does this proposal affect our staffing requirements?

Flt ops has stated it would be on a very limited basis. The only aircraft it could be done on would be the international widebodies and the 757ER's. From a cost standpoint it makes little sense to use 3 pilots per block hour flown verses two. The good news is that staffing would go up.

Oh and they came with N numbers that ended with MH, we used to joke that stood for "Mullen's Holdings",

I also remember riding the jump seat from ATL-MCO on L10-11's, with a full meal service, on a 1hr. Flight! And also JS'ng on the MD11 and 777 from ATL-MCO.

Our first couple 777's were delivered with no crew rest facility, since the company thought they'd never fly over 12 hours. Frickn' brilliant our Network Guru was back in 1997!
I have also heard those were the initials of the 4th floor project pilot who happened to be tasked with reserving a series of N numbers for the order. Since they didn't give him any restrictions or preferences for the task, he put his stamp on 'em.

I think he's actually on the aircraft these days.
