BTW, the "13 pages of known issues" reads like this:

Page 3 Jeppesen created FlightDeck Pro and it's their product. This just detailed how to do holding patterns, Jepp missing info (which they managed to do with paper plates too)
Page 4 Jepp product issue but you can't save multiple routes, you can't highlight right now, occasional alphabet indexing issue, how to enter lat/long
Page 5 Jeppesen product issue on some charts outside of the U.S., SID/STAR requires the entire transition, Jepp issue with CPDLC.
Page 6 Secure Content Locker opening one document multiple times and NATS copy and paste function from icrew.

Page 8 Screen brightness. Password entry timeout. Keyboard not recognized (solution, unattach and reattach). Tablet doesn't turn on, how to reboot.
Page 9 Repeat of same FAQ on page 8. How tablet charges.

Page 12 Where RCTRs are located, highlighting not available but requested, tablet mounts can fail but here is how to prevent them from failing.

Not exactly devastating stuff requiring us to end this program. Basically it said Jepp made aware of issues with their product, if keyboard is a problem remove it and reattach it, if tablet doesn't turn on then hold the turn on button til it turns on, if it's hot it turns itself off to protect itself and new stuff coming. The end.

Now If you want to have some fun btw, here is Apple folks introducing new apple products that failed during the introduction... computers gonna computer

I have used a Ipad for 4 years as a EFB and never had lockup. Had another tonight going into lax. Had to toss my first tablet to a mechanic at pushback because it was so hot you could not touch it. Let's not even get into the incredible poor charts and rendering. Try zooming in on the high charts when bumpy. If you manage to zoom to the spot you want the airway numbers and other data don't zoom.
I have yet to have a single pilot who can even find the oceanic clearance data on the Atlantic ˝. I can go on and on. It took the company over a year with 12,000 surfaces sitting in a warehouse before they even felt they could enter the full test period the software was so buggy. We will see if we can go paper free at the 6 month point like the Ipad airlines have been able to do. I somehow doubt it.

Sailing your last paragraph is a content locker issue not a surface issue. I have had an iPad for years and used it for BYOD. I have had lock ups and other issues with it which I think is more to do with Aps than the hardware. I was in a hotel Van with an Alaska pilot who said they were dumping content locker and going with good reader or something similiar as they were having issues with the iPad locking up. Of course this one was guy so if there is an Alaska guy reading this jump in and correct me if I am wrong.

Most reviews of the Surface Pro (our next tablet) say it is superior to the iPad. Between that and the business relation we have with Microsoft i think the Surface is here to stay.

Okay, I'll admit to being a late adopter on the surface. My content locker on my ipad was lockup and crash prone to the point I stayed using paper until the end.

The issues I have with the surface after a short usage period is a pretty short list.

Lack of ball notes on the chart. Lack of area charts in the airport menu. Inability to have the approach and taxi diagram up at the same time (if there's a way to do this plz share).

Also, it would be nice to have the delta app available that let's you watch one of the delta movies on the commute in a wifi enabled jet.

I haven't set up my private partition yet, but I think when these few things are fixed, I'll be a surface fan.

I've been 100% Apple/Mac since ~2000, so I'm predisposed to be anti-Surface, and having used the iPad at JB, there definitely is some stuff the iPad does better (notably Jepps). All that said, I'd say the Surface is growing on me and I think it will be solid. Things I can still grump about:

Windows RT is to "real" Windows like Dominos is to "real" American-style Pizza. It looks the same from a distance, but isn't. And even if it was, it would be heavier, slower, and overall not nearly as good as the stuff made in Naples (or Cupertino, as it were).

The battery logic, or lack thereof. Leave it plugged in all night in the hotel only to find neither of the batteries decided to charge because you forgot to follow all the trouble-shooting steps.

Ball notes… please.

Crashes and spinning beach balls (but the iPad used to crash as well, especially with the Comply365 app).

The combination EFB mount and defibrillator. Probably not a problem for 20 year old eyes, or those in wider cockpits, but for us mere mortal narrow-body types, I get the choice between reading at Rainman-esque distances that undershoot my bifocals or having the Surface hit the yoke in the flare… though it works pretty well if you affix it to the front windscreen. I got weird looks from the Capt and passengers when I decided just to strap it to my left leg on a kneeboard (I'd have used my right leg, but that's where my Captain America coloring book goes), but that was probably because I forgot to take them off during our inflight break.
