Funny...being a commuter and a 737 pilot as well, I am extremely grateful that about 600ish of our 700ish 737s (guess which airline) have 2 jumpseats. It has gotten me (and many other commuters) to and from work many a time. No, it's not comfortable, but it's better than getting left behind. Some of the most entertaining flights I've ever worked have been with +2 in the cockpit. The banter is almost always good, especially when collectively there are three different airlines represented, and it makes the flight go by a whole lot faster. If it's a longer flight, I give the J/Sers the option of one going out in the cabin for a while during cruise....our F/As rarely seem to mind.

Buzz and dog, the 'policy' I'm referring to is that Delta chooses to receive brand new aircraft outfitted with less than the maximum available cockpit jumpseats. While it is unfortunate your mgmt has opted for this rather unenlightened and el-cheapo policy, it is even more disappointing that apparently more than a few of you line pilots actually AGREE with it (oh yeah I forgot, 'cause commuting is always a CHOICE, right? :rolleyes:) The only way it will ever change is if enough of you make a big enough stink, and yeah, maybe spend a little negotiating capital to change mgmt's mind. I let my reps (and anyone else who'll listen) know that in our next TA, I would very much like to see language mandating that every time we receive a used 737, as part of the conversion process the aircraft will be brought up to the maximum possible cockpit jumpseat configuration. We're not there yet, but maybe someday....

This is the concept, Captain sits in his seat, JS behind him, and jumpseater can be no larger than an infant.

Not unless they are listed as unaccompanied minors (which leads to other red tape headaches) or there is an adult, other than yourself, with them.

This is the last comment I'll make on this subject... but if this were your wife, child or loved one on this plane, would you feel the same? FWIW, there were quite a few children on this flight. R.I.P.
