From a while back I posted about doing a PD when the required vs. available document shows a deficit and the raw schedule shows there is enough coverage. For the 20th and 21st I kept getting my request denied due to inadequate reserve coverage. Sometime today my trip got dropped (and immediately picked up, pretty good trip, 30 hours in BOS!). Anyway, the required/available document still shows a 4 person deficit, so not really sure if there is any value in that product at all.

I assume that the other pilot had a WS in that matched your trip, that your PD was denied (again), and that the trip was awarded to him on his WS. If there is another pilot with a WS request that matches your trip, reserve coverage no longer matters.

You can see exactly what happened by pulling up the history on your (former) trip.

Hmm, interesting. Not sure what you mean by rotation history. When I click on the rotation is looks like any other rotation, just not my name next to it anymore :). I also typed the rotation number into the pre-flight section and got the exact same display as when I clicked on it in the daily trip coverage section. My schedule says PD for the day the trip was dropped and as you suggested, the trip was picked up via white slip. I guess this guy doesn't look at the swap board since I had the trip out for both a PD and a swap on the board. Or is the situation that I just described what my schedule will look like when I drop a trip via the swap board? (1st time doing this with both a PD and swap option)

Q: What is the difference between a RES X day and a Golden Day. The way I read the PWA and the Scheduling Reference Handbook they can both be equally violated using the long-call ladder. The only advantage with a Golden Day is the fact that you're more likely to be be released on the last RES day prior to a Golden Day. Is this correct?

Also, if your X days are violated does that automatically trigger Green Slip pay if there are duty periods on an X day, even if the trip was assigned on a RES day?

To me the biggest differences are if you aren't assigned a trip by noon prior to a golden day then you're done where as you have to ask permission to be released if the next day is an XX day. The other big item is they can tag you on the last day of a RES day with a trip that extends into your XX days while they are not allowed to do that if it is a golden day.

A golden X-day is a "hard non-fly day," as opposed to a normal X-day, which is a "soft non-fly day," and a reserve pilot may not be inversely assigned on a hard non-fly day. The upshot of this is that a reserve pilot is automatically released at noon before the start of a golden X-day and may not be inversely assigned to fly on or into his golden X-day. Also, Crew Scheduling must make effort to avoid rerouting him into a golden X-day.

Yes. A reserve pilot can only be flown into an X-day (not golden) as an inverse assignment, and that always generates premium pay for any duty period that touches an X-day.

Go to the Open Time menu. Enter the date and rotation number of your trip and then select Rotation History. That will show you a timeline of where the rotation has been. I expect it will show that you PD'd it and the other guy WS'd it.

No. Had he picked it up via the swap board, it would simply be gone from your line with no trace and not show in Daily Trip Coverage at all.

Lets say you have an uncommutable 3 day rotation that you'll have to commute in a day early for. Can you put in a white slip for a 4 day that would conflict with your 3 day, but allow you to work on the day you would have otherwise had to commute in without getting paid? Does the white slip with conflict cause the computer to not look at it at all? Thanks in advance.
