I've received so many emails from ALPA announcing candidates for council 44 captain rep that I have to ask: Who isn't running for captain rep????

The first two I was planning on (DeRosa and Johnson); the other two I'll evaluate further.

[QUOTE=Jughead135;1971019]You certainly got my undivided attention with this post! I'm going into training for the first time (since new hire) in November, I do NOT want to repeat this guy's experience...!

Am I reading this correctly to think this is an international "problem," or is it a question of magnitude? I'm going from a right-sized / maybe slightly overstaffed (?) category to an overstaffed (?) category, with the longest trips in either being 5-day, with predominantly 4-day trips in both (and I don't really know how to define "under" / "over" staffed, so I'm guessing based on what I see in other categories...).

So, TR days late in the month: bid for trips touching those days, get them dropped/paid, then enjoy the extra days off beforehand and/or try to GS, as desired?

Shadow days early in the next month: same idea, bid for trips that touch the shadow days, expect them to be dropped, then get paid the greater of those dropped trips or any OE flown

It really depends on what you want to do. You can maximize time off or go for money. The best thing to do is download the DALPA guide to bidding in training months. In my case it made sense to bid reserve the first month and a line the next month. Each situation is different. If your shadow days for OE are all in one month you will be paid the greater of trips touching or the actual OE. If the shadow period transitions over two months you can work miracles!

Yep, already done that. In fact, just got done re-reading it. Biggest take-away is that there is no bidding over the TR days (or the PTP days)-- those are simply "blocked" from PBS. As a commuter, Reserve is anathema to me, even if it would work out to more money for the month, so that's a non-starter. Looks like I'll be bidding in my current category for a "short" month in November....

Please explain the bolded part to me like I'm a dribbling idiot--because, apparently I am.... :o (But, be gentle, I am a first-timer at this!) I don't see the difference....

In any case, I don't know exactly how many shadow days to expect (is there a "standard" amount?), but I assume they'll all be within December. The Holidays may, I suppose, extend my OE beyond the 1st of the year, but I don't think that will change the footprint of the shadow (yes/no)? So, I'd guess the strategy is to bid as many trips (highest credit) as possible during or touching shadow days, thus getting the highest pay?

Thanks for the info & feedback. That PBS Notepad is helpful, but it doesn't get into strategy AT ALL, unfortunately....

Flight attendant rumor mill: 14.5% pay raise, additional 1% match on 401K.

Discuss.
