Not enough information to answer this since there are so many more variables.

Are the Jr. pilots in the same bucket as you?
Do the Jr. pilots have adequate 30/168 look-back to fly the 2 day trip?
Will the trip give the jr pilot 60 flight duty period hours in the previous 168 hours?

As for recourse, yes you do. Something similar to this happened to me and I called CS and pointed out their error. They had to redo 100% of their assignments and SCs for that day and the senior pilot who was in a lower bucket than me got the trip as they deserved. I called ALPA after the fact and they told me I'd have been eligible for assignment pay if I'd flown the trip.

Yeah, and Jennifer Aniston is doing those Emirates ads, but I can't bring myself to hate her...there's simply too much hotness to overcome.

I agree. Not enough info. If you are like me, you suffer from the "why" disease. The only way to find out is to call schedules, but they may be busy and get annoyed with you. You can look at those other 5 guys schedules and may get some answers.

The times I have called schedules, there is always a reason and they didn't make a mistake. It's all done by the computer. It spits out a name based on the parameters of the FARs and contract.

Good luck and have fun on your 2 day!

PSA: Be advised that the required schedule check after a rotation may not keep you safe from still getting assigned something later in the day. I had three day block of reserve. YSd a two-day, checked my schedule after block in (nothing on it) and flew home. Pulled into the driveway and got an early am SC on my last day. Fortunately there was a late flight with seats on it and made it back for my SC (after spending two hrs at home). Wasn't used of course, but didn't want to gamble. Anyway be ready for anything if you are reserve.

Question on PB days: I have 5 days in the bank I'd like to apply to first five days next month. Scheduling is telling me I can't have them those days, there's not enough reserve coverage. Is this correct? Problem is further compounded by the fact that my category is below quota for reserves for the entire month, before it has even started. When getting PB days within the bid period, reserve coverage doesn't matter, why should it in this case?

Yes. That is correct. You have to have excess reserves to PB drop.

Save your payback days for when you have a line and buy yourself out of trips, it's more lucrative than buying out of reserve days.

Yes this correct. I would like this fixed. Best way is to put your PB days request in on the 1st PCS run on the 20th the month prior. I played this game last summer. I would put in the max request for PB days. Get them scattered all over the month like roulette. Then you GS on them and do the same thing the next month. Works great. 140-120 avg pay with 15-18 days off. You know your doing something right when the #1 FO is checking your schedule.

I have called when I had questions. They were either right or convinced me they were. But I am fairly certain reserve assignments are done manually. Once trips are loaded computer checks legality. But ys, who gets what, sc, etc, is done by scheds. They are supposed to follow buckets, etc, but its done by hand, not computer. Which is how you get the scenario Mike described

You're obviously already well aware as a 717B yourself who is flying GS on reserve . . . but I think the 717B staffing systemwide is so incredibly far behind where it needs to be, that nobody below 20% in their seat will be able to drop anything including apply PB days, until this fall. A glance at each bases 717B reserve grid confirms this.

If they're sending new hires to Australia for sims, you know it's gotta be ugly. People are still continuing to convert out to other categories as their seat locks expire; the new hires are probably barely covering that and the summer block hours are still not even here yet.
