LCA to "B" Rotation - Legit?
Just curious about the PWA legitimacy of a trip coverage scenario that played out in my base today. To be clear, I know zero details aside from what's published in iCrew, but it strikes me as odd. Here's the deal:
Rotation xxxx was a 4-day A/B for today as originally configured. In "Daily Trip Coverage" it now shows "Noop" in the block-in/block-out columns with a particular F/O assigned. No reason codes. Said pilot not on today's "Reserve Availability" list, at least not now. "Reserve Levels" show 1 of 6 required, but he's already been assigned SC for tomorrow. Only other rotation assigned today was a G#1 (I think GS#1 has passed all the way through the category now; we probably have some G#2s for the month). Now here's where it gets peculiar: the coverage time is 26 minutes AFTER to actual departure of the associated outbound flight that indeed operated, but it was ten minutes late. Looking up "Pilot Names" under the outbound flight #shows an "A" assigned to a different rotation # that flies only the outbound leg, with a DH back to base. The "A" from the original rotation number is flying, and that's it. No F/O. The newcomer happens to be an LCA, and the notes say "LCA so-in-so to give line check to CA so-in-so." There is no record of the LCA joining the flight under A or B within Daily Trip Coverage. I guess anything goes when scrambling to cover a trip, but this sounds like a phony-baloney line check to get a butt in the seat. As a pilot with a GS request on file today, I'm trying to determine if this was a proper assignment. My phone did not ring, but mind you I'm up for #2. Opinions and facts are welcomes. Thanks. |

Got ROBO call and put slip request in with conflict. Waited a bit to see if they would process on their own. No dice. Called them to inquire and was told they aren't doing "with conflict" yet. It's still sitting in there. Presently 4 hours till sign in. Maybe I don't get the coverage ladder but if they don't have someone they wish to use (no conflict) wouldn't they still cover it with someone that can operate it on time...even if it's with conflict? I agree with the previous post, maybe more behind the curtain that is yet to reveal itself, but I sure am learning a lot today!! Loads and loads of open rotations in ATL and LAX 717B today and the last few days too. I wouldn't wish that job on anyone. |

Run it through the rules auditor in the swap with the pot section and see if it comes up with any violations, if not call a scheduling supervisor and ask why you didn't get a call. You may not get paid for it as they will run through and see if anyone junior to you also didn't get a call (remember IA's go bottom up) the junior most person that got bypassed will get pay protected single pay.

Annnnnnd the winner is. Yeah it went Noop for no crew. I thought if they had someone that could cover it they would cover it and deal with tomorrow...tomorrow. I misunderstood the coverage ladder as: "We'll cover all flights in this coverage order and only if unable to cover it would cancel." As I said before, learning a lot today! |
Reserve GS question. How is a PR calculated? If I return at 1900, when can I be hit up again (I have a payback day, next day is also a res...when can I get sent to work again)? I ask because what I got is not what I thought I would get.

I think that depends on your category/flying. I think they do what they can to cover international flying. A lot of GSWC's went out last summer in NYC, and I could never for the life of me figure out why they always waited until the 11th hour to cover some of those trips.
I believe once scheduling gets within a certain time threshold they are allowed to do whatever they can to cover a trip, or so I've been told. Scheduling never makes a decision to cancel a flight. That is done way above their pay grade. Because a rotation was nooped does not usually mean the flight was canceled. If the flying became know less then 14 hours prior to report it can be returned to crew tracking for coverage. (Reroute) |
