If you are going to training in July, and converted to your new catagory in August, when does the new pay rate officially start? The beginning of the Aug bid period or the end? I thought it would be the beginning but I think I saw Aug 31 on Icrew somewhere.

Depends on when you finish in August. If you do your 44X ride after the 15th, pay starts on the 31st. 15th or earlier, pay starts on the 1st.

I thought your pay rate changed to your new category on the date of your conversion, regardless of when you finish training? That's the way it was done for many years, did it change recently?

Not really. You are correct that the new pay rate starts on the date of your conversion but he is also right in that it is the completion of training (sims, not OE) which determines when that conversion date is established.

Per 22.E.6.a, the 16th of the month is the magical measuring date which determines conversion. Finish training on or before the 16th and you are converted at the beginning of the bid period. After the 16th, you are converted at the beginning of the next bid period.

There are several exceptions where you could be converted sooner.

Anybody here ever get a GSWC from a carry out trip in a reserve month (on my off days) into a month with a regular line? I couldn't find anything contractually prohibiting the practice but I called ALPA for their take. I spoke with C. and he didn't think this was possible. I disagree but what ALPA and I think really don't matter, I was hoping somebody had already pressed to test and could provide a definitive "yeah or nay".

I got it on the January bid award. The projected conversion was AUG which I think July was the 6 month point so I'm guessing Aug is the latest conversion. My training timeline shows Aug 11 as my last day of training so I guess the question is mute. ;)

It could never happen. Why? Because when you are on reserve there is no such animal as GSWC, only GS. So if you put in for a GS that conflicted with a trip in the next month (which in your example is a regular month) it would be denied due to conflicting with the trip.

Ok, I get that technically there is no GSWC for a RES pilot. Would my hypothetical situation fall under 23.N.25?

"Reserve pilots on X-day(s) who can be assigned with conflict (in category, in inverse seniority order)"

This step of the assignment ladder is (remarkably) 1 before GSWC.

I suppose you would be right! Funny how you can't volunteer for this (GSWC) but it could be put to you. Or perhaps I was wrong earlier.
