Just a warning about becoming a teacher... sure you get summers off, but it's not good pay for all the education you have to have and a tremendous amount of unpaid hours. LOOONG hours during the school year.

And depending on the state/school district, you might not even get a paycheck during the summer months. My mother was a teacher for over 20 years. During summers she'd take on private tutoring jobs and teach summer school to keep some money flowing in. Sure they're home every night, but public school teachers are by and large severely overworked and underpaid.

In a word... nope! We're short, too... no one gets to rotate back to the line in August.

Responding to the post on the kid becoming the teacher, my best friend from high school is a quite highly regarded high school history teacher on the north side of ATL. He's 35, still hasn't paid off his student loans, and I make around 4 times what he makes with a lot more time at home. To progress, there is a lot of unpaid extra stuff to run like debate, mock trial, and so on. If the kid really wants to teach school, teach... just don't expect anywhere near the money or time off that we pull in.

Yeah, be a teacher. That compares to this job in so many ways.

That's mentoring not teaching.

2 questions for a newbie. I've looked at the PWA and still can't figure it out.

1. I have 3 days of MLOA and 4 days of vacation next month. I know the GS trigger for a regular line is still 75 hours, but what about a reserve line? With the MLOA, I will have less of guarantee than normal. So would a X-day GS pay on top of the my reserve guarantee? I would bid a regular line around my MLOA but I don't have the seniority to bid weekends off.

2. Does your APD reset on your anniversary date or your anniversary bid month? Meaning, could you potentially use an APD twice in month? Once before your DOH and once again after your DOH.

Thanks for the help.

1. There is no GS trigger on reserve. You'd just have a lower guarantee to add GS time onto.

2. APD resets on the first day of your anniversary month. Regardless of when the "bid month" starts. Can't have 2 in a month

Thanks! That's how read it. I'm getting better at the PWA interpretation.
