What I was thinking about is likely a form of something DALPA is already predisposed to give them for free in the future anyway. Location information based of a cellular tablet or whatever, etc. So at start of SC, you log in and it verifies you're a reasonable distance away. What determines that? The same thing that already does. At the very least, 125 miles from the airport reference point is the worst they could ever hold us to.
To even allow that though, I'd want a reduction in the monthly max of SC's. The current 7/6 can go to 6/5. If they want positive airport checkin, in addition to the hard pay and credit, 4/3 would be appropriate IMO for max SC's a month, in addition to the added pay and credit for each one sat. If they won't accept that, then they don't get the other side of that equation. Oh well.
I also don't see the number of SC's being reduced.
Isn't that a formula that is already in the contract?
I am just adamantly against any sort of "tracking mechanism" for SC and certainly against having to physically go to the airport to "check in" for SC.
Despite my rigorous defense of the victims of the big data dump guilty because of lack of retroactive proof nonsense, I know some are absolutely guilty of that kind of stuff and it ticks me off too. I want them caught and punished (just not in that manner because that manner is unacceptable). So I'm receptive to potentially workable solutions that put a stop to the abuse while giving us something in return for the added inconvenience and "addressing of their concern". Win-win if we do it right. If the company isn't interested in a fair and workable solution, then it must not be the big of an issue for them.

How about something like the ol' Delta Shuttle "Dozing for Dollars" program? You basically sat airport standby for 10 or 12 hour shifts and were credited with 1 hour for every 2 hours of standby. Worst case you get 5 hours of credit for a 10 hour standby with no flying. Not sure how much that would cost the company as it eats into your guarantee but they would be able to have readily available SC people and they would know you are in position to be promptly available b/c you would sign-in at the airport to start your pay clock. Not necessarily a great deal for those who live local but it would let you eat away at the reserve guarantee, unlike the current SC structure.

We used to have 6 short calls. When they increased it to 7, our union actually claimed it was a gain for the international guys and the domesic guys would never sit 7 short calls in a month. They said it was a gain because short calls for international guys used to be 24 hours and (6*24) is more than (7*14). This is one of many reasons why we call our union salesmen.

Well maybe, but in 18 years of on and off reserve last month was the first time that I ever maxed out SC. I am of the opinion that it is directly related to guys not being in position when they were needed.
Just like sick call and MIL LV, we had very Pilot friendly programs in place until guys started pushing it - now we have much less Pilot friendly programs in place in these areas. It will be interesting to see what if any proposed changes we see in SC.

Food? LOL yeah ok. You can bring your food if you're that worried about it. I'm not advocating a freebie give back. I want something for it. I'll trade 7 SC's for 7 hours credit for 4 SC's with 21 hours credit all day long, and that's even if the price differential moved the needle, even assuming I couldn't bring my own food.
