Calling in sick....
If you call in well mid rotation, you are not expected to return to the rest of the trip correct? Anything else to be aware of calling in well mid rotation? |

I’ve never understood the upside to calling in well mid-rotation.
No they won't put you back on your rotation. If it's still in OT you could WS it. And make zero extra money as it will go back to refilling your sick bank. So I'd question why you would call in well mid rotation and WS. GS on the other hand....though I think the new contract limited that? |

I believe around this same time the AirTran MEC voted NOT to send the initial SLI deal SW offered to the pilot group. SLI 2.0 was a worse deal and the AT MEC took a lot of heat over not letting the pilot group decide. Perhaps this episode weighed on the previous previous MEC. (not the single previous MEC, just to be clear which TA and MEC we are referring to)
Many factors in any contract /SLI negotiations. |
What if you can't WS the remainder back? You call in sick for a 4-day. 20hrs is deducted from your bank and you are paid for this. You call in well for day 3. Now only 10 hours is deducted from your sick bank. But you are now only paid 10 hours for the entire trip. I don't think this is a statement of fact |

Sorry guys. I think you're correct. Hadn't had my coffee yet.
You replenish your bank by calling in well and flying. So there is an upside. |
I’ve never understood the upside to calling in well mid-rotation. One possible upside is that if you pull a knucklehead move and forget to call in well, AND the scheduler does not give you a courtesy call to inquire your status, you don't commute in just to find out that the schedulers assigned your trip to a reserve. Thus, while you will still get paid for the second trip, your sick bank will take another hit and you might open yourself up to monitoring status. As a side note, I have been called by scheduling as in this scenario. I did not consider it "sick leave harassment" as some here would and was most thankful that I got the courtesy call. I don't consider it harassment 'cause the scheduler could GAS...he just cares about getting all the trips covered and he has a lot of arrows in his quiver to accomplish that, the first being to check to make sure that it wasn't an oversight on your part. YMMV |
Someone a while back said this was the case, but wondering if anyone has ops tested this scenario.
If you have an X day on the second to last day of the month(I.e. you have one on call day starting on the last day of the month), will Pbs make you be on call for the first 3 days (my cat is 4-99-4) regardless of what you bid? In essence is it possible to “trick” the system into giving you a grouping of on call days less than your category demands for that month? Thanks! |
