Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
I tried to do this last night Jfk to mco however the gate agent gave me the "we don't have time to change you to that" and closed out the flight. Unfortunately the gate agents are under huge pressure to close out the flights on time, which is 10 minutes early, and in JFK they have 5 minutes knocked off the clock even though the departure time says the posted time.
Pax too, love saying goodbye after a flight and getting the blank stares as if they just survived the worst thing ever. Guess if it was one of my landings they might be justified though.

It’s just funny to me when I say goodbye to non revs getting off and sometimes don’t get any acknowledgment. I know that often crew members are probably pretty tired and usually just want to get the hell out of there.
It’s not a big deal but I always try to at least poke my head up front and say thank you. A little courtesy goes a long way. Idk why but I find in general JetBlue crew members are usually the most friendly and respectful when jumpseating.

I new a guy like this in the Navy. People always asked him why he was “****ed off” and he would say “I’m not, this is my happy face”. Talking to him at a party once and someone we even knew came up and asked the question. Pretty funny to observe except I think he got real tired of the question.

I always ask and say that I'm willing to sit in the FA jumpseat if it gets someone else on.
As far as the eye contact thing, they may be tired and not even see you. Engage and you may be surprised with the results.
I had a regional friend tell me about our supposed reputation for not making eye contact walking through the halls. I'm a friendly guy, and I always say hi or smile and wave and never gave it a second thought.... so I paid attention my next trip as to my contact with other pilots. I was 0 for 6 with any regional guys responding to my smile and nod or even wave at them. Goes both ways....

Yes. And if I see a full flight with an off line jumpseater, I arrange for the Delta pilot to use the FA Jumpseat (if available). Almost every Delta pilot has been very understanding. And the one that wasn’t, I finally told him to stop arguing as we don’t leave people.
I think you may need to get a bigger hat.
JFK is the worst at this. I've been left at the gate with an open cockpit JS because the agent didn't want to take a delay. I pointed out that they were already 10 minutes late, who cares if they're 11 minutes late? The agent literally ignored me, walked to the jetway and closed the door behind them. I can only hope Karma finds that man some day and he gets to spend an extra night in a place he doesn't want to be, because somebody didn't want to take a minute out of their day to do the right thing.
Take out your pen and ask their name. Tell them you'll need it to submit in your report. It may well change their tune.

I doubt they are going to care that you threaten to write them up for following company policy. On the other hand they get in big trouble for every delay if it’s put on them even when the departure time is changed. Boarding a late pilot would be charged to them.
