Those are new ETDs, not new D0s. And they definitely don’t change the A0.

I know, I was just taking a guess at what the other poster was talking about.

Agreed. I was keying in more on the "leaving later." I think we can all agree that many times, even leaving 15 late, we will still land on time or early. IMHO, the rush to always get the plane out on time, has created some bad juju. Last week we had pax boarding a dirty jet because the red coat/gate agents were too scared of taking a delay...even after the Captain had told them to hold off boarding (while the cleaners would not answer our calls). Nothing like first class pax walking onto a 330 while the FAs are scrambling to do the cleaners jobs... Even though the jet had been sitting for 5+ hours and supposedly had been cleaned, coach was a complete disaster. But but gosh, those agents didn't get a delay as we pushed on time, then landed 35 minutes early...

Oh no. that's not true at all. I have seen many passengers on a dead run thru the terminal desperately hoping that their flight will leave right on time, and when they get to the gate with 5 minutes to spare being thrilled at the site of the door being closer and the jetway pulling back. Happens all the time.

This is true, but what I was referring to is the non-rev deadline. A reserved jumpseat doesn't die until 10 minutes prior to any updated time.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I’ll sit wherever I need to at this point. This was about :8 prior to push. Took a :10 delay with a redcoat interaction to make it work. Did he know I was going S1A? He likely saw it. Did he not let it go, yes. Still arrived on time. I apologized to everyone I saw but he made it happen. Saw him a week later and fulfilled his Starbucks request as the least I could do. They try. Gotta give at least some the credit. Some don’t care, but my experience in ATL is they make it happen, if at all possible. Can’t speak of other bases, but my recent experience had me more than impressed after even saying “if this is going to hurt you, I’ll try for the next”. His response “nope, you can and will be on this plane”. Cheapest latte I ever bought. Made a massive difference in the end.
You could consider submitting a kudos for him via the employee rewards site. He might get something out of it and it might make his supervisor better consider the humanity of the situations that their agents deal with every day.

How is this possible? If the captain didn't let people board, then how did people get on a dirty plane? I delayed boarding for a hot plane on my last trip, nobody boarded until I said it was OK to board. Did the captain buckle to pressure or did they board without his consent?

I was that passenger, while traveling DTW-SEA-ANC with the military last year. My boss, who was 15 rows in front of me on a 739 (I was in the last row), made it on with 15 minutes to go. I showed up at 12 minutes and the door was closed... No soup for the 15 of us standing there that ran from the same flight. The flight left with tons of open seats and landed 20 minutes early. That's some great customer service right there...I was embarrassed to be a Delta employee at that moment.

I knew complaining at the gate when the agent came back was futile. I quickly stepped over to the red phones and got the last seat on the next flight to ANC. The following flight was oversold. I sat and listened as the rest of the pax got tickets for the next day (losing a day of their vacation), and one poor girl was sent back to MSP then to ANC to still get there the next day. All in the name of D0...

If the captain says don’t board, then they shouldn’t board. What the hell has happened to captain authority?

Actually:

"In the event of a delayed flight, the reservation will be held until 15 minutes prior to the revised departure time."

FOM Chapter 26, Section 4.
