Time was when nobody wanted their hat to look new, lest they be considered a rookie. Remove the plastic grommet and stomp the hat into “old pro” condition. :D

American was the serious pro at that. I tried and tried to emulate. Finally realized that gabardine and wool are different.

Would putting my hat in the front pocket of my bag keep it looking new?

Probably safer to just leave it at home where it can't get damaged :D
