Did you order your keyboard?

 

So speaking of the keyboard. I don’t want it, but the union told me to get it. For sake of being a good union member should I just get it and leave it on a shelf for a few years? I get that it’s in the contract and I’m glad Delta is offering them now. Since they have offered it isn’t that enough?

 

The app doesn’t even request location data. But I’m sure the union knows that and isn’t reacting in a knee-jerk fashion.

 

I saw a story on the news about a week ago about Google and location tracking. Not sure if this applies to an Apple product but I bet it does...

The reporter used 2 phones with one in airplane mode. He then went and visited quite a few locations (I think in the DC area). His phones tracked every move he made and every where he went with GPS data and sent it to Google. The only significant difference was the phone in airplane mode waited until it was out of airplane mode to send the data to Google. This is all transparent to the end user........you and me.

Denny, I’ve been showing this to people I fly with for a long time. If you give me your phone (iPhone) and you unlock it, in about 5-10 seconds I could show you everywhere you frequent, where you live and how long it takes you to get to these places from your home. It’s not hard to find it. You can disable this function called “significant locations”, or you can clear its history as often as you like. You wonder why you get certain sales emails or spam calls soon after passing a store or entering some business. This data is mined, traded and sold and is big bucks.

Speaking of hidden gems, another one most are not aware of is using Chrome or Mozilla browsers, your user names and passwords for every website you’ve ever had a sign on (account) with, are recorded and easily accessible. I’ve shown this to people as well. It takes me all of 10-15 seconds to show you your usernames and passwords on a desktop or laptop. On an iPhone you still need the thumbprint or facial recognition to view the password, but on a desktop or laptop, it’s there to be had. Clean your caches often, and clean them thoroughly. This is unfortunately the world we live in now.

 

Of course your phone is tracking you, how else do you think google maps knows to show you all the local Irish pubs on your overnights.

Ya, I think it's safe to assume that you can be tracked pretty much anywhere with your phone/other electronic devices (cameras in cities). Also, your phone microphone and Alexa are eavesdropping machines. Someone could very well be watching you via your computers camera right now. How does google maps know the status of the traffic, everywhere at all times? It's amazing to me that there are still people out there that seem shocked when they find out that data is being collected off their phones every day.

If you're an iPhone user go to settings - privacy - locations services - system services - frequent locations.

Lol, I knew it was something close. Haven't had an iPhone in years, I'm on the even more unsafe Android platforms.

 

My wife and kids talked me into joining the dark side I think on iPhone 4. I loved android, of course I rooted(hacked) all mine and installed custom ROMS, but I digress.

 

Thanks for this post! I’m pretty much a computer novice and going to show my ignorance in the following. I know enough to do what I want but this tracking software is BS. How do you disable “significant locations” on an iPhone 6s and does this have any effect on using things like google maps or city maps to go? If I just want to clear the history, (because it does interfere) how is that done?

I suspect the pop ups I get saying something like “9 minutes to Steve’s Bar and Grill” are associated with this...

I would have PM’d these questions but maybe there are other computer challenged guys like me out there and my embarrassment will help them too!
