Sailing,

I did check out the options carefully....I didn't just take what I heard on the line as gospel. I talked to ALPA Benefits Rep...I talked to Delta Benefits Team....I read/scanned the Basic Life, Optional Life, and Group AD&D Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD) and the actual policy certificates (all available on the Benefits Direct library)

To sum up my understanding: Life Insurance pays when you die...the Group AD&D and Private Pilot Insurance is more about the bodily injury / disability that occured from the accident, but you didn't die.

From ALPA Benefits Rep:
"The only exclusion to the contractual Basic Life Insurance policy is death caused by the beneficiary. The policy will pay out for a death caused by any other reason.

The exclusions for the Optional Life Insurance are death caused by the beneficiary and a death caused by a suicide within 2 years of the effective date of the policy."

From Delta Benefits:
"There isn’t anything in the optional life (or basic life) insurance certificates that excludes death related to flying. These life insurance certificates would be the appropriate documents for you to review as it relates to exclusions within out life insurance benefits, and they are available in the Benefits Direct library which is the tool you would go to in order to enroll in benefits.
Regarding AD&D, if you have that benefit and private pilots coverage, there are different exclusions from life insurance and are referenced in those certificates. I hope this helps"

If you can find something written that differs, I would love to see if so we can all make informed decisions, but my not a layer, didn't stay in a holiday inn express last night summary is:

Basic Life: will pay for anyting except death at hands of the beneficiary

Optional Life: pays except for death at hands of beneficiary or suicide within first 2 years.

Neither Group Accident nor Family Group Accident Insurance covers any Loss that results from any of the following:
- Suicide or attempted suicide, or intentionally self-inflicted injury
- Sickness, disease or any bacterial infection, except one that results from an accidental cut or wound or pyogenic infections that result from the accidental ingestion of a contaminated substance
- Medical or surgical treatment of Sickness, whether the Loss results directly or indirectly from the treatment
- Injury or Loss contributed to by the use of any drug or narcotic, except as prescribed by a doctor. This exclusion does not apply to any over-the-counter drug taken according to the manufacturer’s package instructions
- Injury or Loss sustained while legally intoxicated as determined according to the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Injury or Loss occurred
- War or any act of war, whether declared or not, except as described under “War Risk Coverage” below
- A Covered Accident that occurs while on active duty service in the military, naval or air force of any country or international organization for more than 60 days, except for Reserve or National Guard active duty training
- Commission of or an attempt to commit a felony
- Travel or flight in any vehicle used for aerial navigation — including getting in, out of, on or off the vehicle — if the covered person is performing as a pilot or crew member of any aircraft other than one operated, controlled or leased by or on behalf of the Company or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates

Private Pilots Accident Insurance does not cover any Loss (fatal or not-fatal) that results from any of the following:

The Private Pilots Accident Insurance coverage will apply only while you are operating or performing the duties of a pilot or crew member in any properly licensed private aircraft or military aircraft, provided you are properly licensed and currently qualified to pilot such aircraft. Properly licensed private aircraft or military aircraft do not include:
- An aircraft certified by the FAA as experimental, restricted or limited, or as a prototype aircraft
- An aircraft being used for waivered flying, crop dusting, test flying, flight instruction or participation in speed or endurance contests
- An aircraft being used for stunt flying (other than performing legal aerobatic flying specifically approved by the FAA for such purposes and in an area and at an altitude approved by the FAA); while flying for hire, except for Delta or any of its subsidiaries; or while flying in violation of any FAA regulations
- An aircraft that is not equipped, inspected, certified or maintained in accordance with FAA regulations

Default RUO and Within days-of-availability

Aren’t reserve assignment trips supposed to go to those who match the number of days they have available with the rotation length?

yes*

*the reserve available list can’t show fine details like pilots needing 30 hour rests or special quals

you can call scheduling and ask. As previously mentioned there is lots of info not available on the reserve availability list. It’s been my experience that it’s generally a rest/FAR issue.

Call skeds. They will be able to look the trip up and why it was assigned. The automated system assigns trips based on a ruthless set of programmed parameters, Sadly, it’s usually correct. It sees all the legalities and variables that we can’t. A scheduler can tell you the reasons it did what it did.

Default "CQ does not prorate" Reserve Calculator

Bidding reserve in January with CQ in the month.

On the John Bell spreadsheet calculator when I type in "3" for CQ, it then says in that line, "CQ does not prorate."

But it should, shouldn't it? I have 3 days of CQ and that will partly go towards reserve.

Anyone see this before?

and if they screwed up and made a mistake, you can file a grievance that should award you an hour of pay above the guarantee. Worked for me this summer when they screwed up.
