No you are correct. We could do an AE each month, but it is easier on the company not to do so. Other airlines have it written in to their PWA's to have position notices each and every month. We do not.

I.E. The AE will be delayed indefinitely

Now THAT's funny, I don't care who you are.

What is the rush?!
The rush is that some of us are actually trying to get out of the hell hole that is NYC.
Over half of the trips I have done while on reserve in NYC have been out of Atlanta (Which I like......anything to get me away from NYC)
Obviously they are way short on FO's out of ATL.......what is the hold up with this AE and moving people?

Not complaining here, just frustrated.

I think its because the main reason for the AE was to fill the 777 spots, which are now being delayed due to the Boeing strike. They dont want to pull these people out of their current seats train them and have them sitting around with no 777s to fly. I heard there will be some other advancements but it is mainly a 777 bid

That and a few other items that will affect staffing post DCC.
Who knows when this sucker will be posted. We will see what they say next week.

They should just have an AE for XX number of FOs on the 88 in ATL. The need is obviously there. It's very unlikely you'd have any significant number of FOs bidding out of anything else other than an 88 in NYC, so there wouldn't be much cost involved; it would save them from DH them from NYC to ATL. They should have had this a long time ago.

But then it leaves the 88B in NYC short. You must displace to that position or hire externally. That is part of the debate going on currently.

I'll cover the NYC 88. It's a short train ride for me. Just tell them to start hiring.

I understand your frustration. A few things need to be worked out. Plus, with the 777's and 737-700's being well over two months late, some of those airframes will be here after the summer 09 schedule completes. That means we will not need the pilots we initially did. I would not be surprised to see some displacements on the AE to cover the 88. (Pure speculation, I have not heard OFFICIALLY that we are not hiring. It just seems logical that we do not need bodies for the summer schedule.)

I don't think it would leave the 88B in NYC short. I'm new to all this, but the number of 88B in NYC on reserve equates to 70% of the manning of 88B line holders there. In ATL it's only 17%. Opening a partial bid to allow some movement, say 15~20 FOs to move, would be good for the company and the pilots. That being said, I understand they're working on the AE and would prefer to put it all out at once, and putting out an AE to accommodate some FOs in NYC isn't worth the trouble when they can just DH them. But when you see it continually delayed you can't help but be frustrated (and a little lighter in the wallet from paying for a crashpad).
