I did not say that people would not be displaced, I just stated that the category would not shrink. If there are people on the 767 in CVG that do not want to fly the ER, and bid to something else in the system, they can bump the most junior pilot off of it. That will probably happen a few times here.
There is no announced shrinkage of any other category or base. Some will shrink with no backfill as the memo stated. In other words. If I had any say in it, I'd prefer to stay on the M88 in CVG. Can this AE force me to NYC or ATL? |
It could if enough people did it.
Just make sure that you bid everything you want to in all three types of bids. |

A question about displacement preferences: is it possible to list a position with a qualifier (ATL 7ERB at 90%) and then list it again farther down your preferences without a qualifier? Is this stuff written anywhere? It seems like we're stretching getting our info from a forum...thanks!
ATL 7ER B 90% ATL 767 B 90% ATL 7ER B 91% ATL 767 B 91% etc, if you wanted atlanta 767 and be as senior as possible on it. |
Thanks for the tip. I wish there was book for idiots WRT AE bidding. I thought I understood enough to be dangerous concerning this bid. Now I hear there are 3 bids? What's this all about?
Sorry to be asking so many questions but this is only after conferring with other newbies (many prior military) that have no clue about these things. During Indoc we got a 20 minute crash-course on bidding (including schedule bidding). The only thing I remember from the brief was something like "PBS, blah, blah, blah, AE don't worry about it, blah, blah, blah, you'll love reserve, widget, hat, widget, welcome to Delta". |

Kinda clears things up but I've got another question. First off all, I'm a CVG M88B newbie on reserve. Lets assume that one of the domestic CVG 767 guys bids CVG 7ER but can't hold it. This 767B pilot, per his preferences wants to stay in CVG at all costs however so he next bids CVG M88B. If this pilot then awarded M88B do I just get moved down a slot or pushed off to NYC.
In other words. If I had any say in it, I'd prefer to stay on the M88 in CVG. Can this AE force me to NYC or ATL? Yes, that is possible. It is probably unlikely as we are so short on 88 f/os that they would just let you stay, but I would put in a displacement as a precaution. Something to the effect of: ATL 88 B 75% NYC 88 B 75% ATL 88 B Lineholder only NYC 88 B Lineholder only Then perhaps a few percentage bids to make you more senior in each base in the event of displacement. Just a suggestion. If you are going to stay in CVG and commute. Remember that 88 NYC is generally not commutable on both ends, but much more junior. Crash pad considerations may come into play. Lots of factors, but the above if you want to be as senior as possible. Try the DALPA forum as well. A lot of good info/suggestions over there. |
Ranger,
If you are in the bottom of the 88B list in CVG, I would definately have a mandatory displacement bid in. It works pretty much like what you said. I a 767B domestic guy cannot hold the 7erb, his mandatory displacement can have CVG88B and he will displace the junior guy off the bottom of CVG88B. This displacement of the junior 88b is at the discression of the company. They may want to carry excess staffing in certain categories. Always better to be safe than sorry and have a mandatory displacement bid in. I do and I check and make sure it is still there after every bid. On a side note, if you do have an AE bid, MD bid, and VD bid in, if you are awarded any of them then they are all erased after the bid is complete and you will need to update them at some point. Now that the AE is out with 7ER in CVG opening up this summer, is NYC 7ER getting any new flying next summer?
NYC 7ER is losing the CVG flying (two six day trips, AMS and FRA), the London flying (2 a day going to the 767-400), ATL's Moscow, and Capetown (8 day trip). I know we have lots of other stuff, but that seems to be a decent chunk of our flying. Another question for ACL65 is do you know what plans there are for DTW flying in the near future? You talked about no-rebasing, so DTW and SEA would be flown from other bases. I can seee LAX 7ER going the SEA flying, but any rumors on DTW stuff? |

So with this CVG growth on the 7ER category does that mean NYC7ERB could be displaced?
Are they taking some of the 7ERs from NYC and moving them to CVG? Trying to figure out if the way this plays out if displacements are coming. |

Don't forget, we already have CVG ER flying - up until now, it has just been flown by pilots from other basses. With this new category, they will not have to move aircraft, there just won't be as many JFK/ATL ER trips with CVG layovers. As a JFK or ATL 7ERB, expect to see more of those "floater" rotaitons (ie. 6 day trips with CVG layovers - B position only). Since they are not staffing extra FO's in CVG, the extra B position on the three man trips will have to come from somewhere.
Does that sound accurate? I know there is a big IF in there but its just hypothetical and makes sense to me. |
