Confused newbie, here.......

I've come to realize that I completely don't understand the difference between the 765, 7ER and 767 Categories. Can someone please explain this to me? (i.e. Which aircraft comprise which categories? What type of flying is done under each category? etc)

Also, how can they turn the CVG 765 Category into a 7ER Category without moving 7ER aircraft out of 7ER bases, and moving those 765 aircraft somewhere else?

Thank you in advance... I've been trying to figure this out on my own for the last two hours, and I can't seem to piece it all together. :)

Looking at the size of the DAL AE this is why the NWA guys are so concerned over retirments. We do a monthly award and the one that was published today is for Mar 09 flying and it conatined almost almost 100 awards. This was also a small award for us because of the backlog we are having in the training department.

Now that the AE is out with 7ER in CVG opening up this summer, is NYC 7ER getting any new flying next summer?

NYC 7ER is losing the CVG flying (two six day trips, AMS and FRA), the London flying (2 a day going to the 767-400), ATL's Moscow, and Capetown (8 day trip). I know we have lots of other stuff, but that seems to be a decent chunk of our flying.

Another question for ACL65 is do you know what plans there are for DTW flying in the near future? You talked about no-rebasing, so DTW and SEA would be flown from other bases. I can seee LAX 7ER going the SEA flying, but any rumors on DTW stuff?

There are a few plans out there. What they do depends on the terms and conditions of the SLI

Does that sound accurate? I know there is a big IF in there but its just hypothetical and makes sense to me.

You are correct in that they are just switching the category from domestic to international - BUT, there may be people in other bases (ie, NYC or ATL) who like international but live closer to CVG than NYC or ATL. They may be more senior than the pilots in the CVG 767 base. So - if people from other bases now bid CVG 7ER, all the CVG 767 people may not be able to hold the new 7ER category.

I know a few NYC 7ER guys who live in CVG - I imagine they will bid this to fly out of home rather than commute.

Us too, normally you will see 600 + positions

Also you have to account for the 40 or so retirements

765 is actually the 767-400, not a current CVG category. CVG is a 767 base for now, and will be changing to a 7ER base with the AE.

So, to sum it up:
765 = 767-400
767 = 767/757 domestic
7ER = 767/757 ER international

See my earlier post about not having to "move" ER equipment into CVG since their is already ER flying from that city.

I would think most if not all CVG 767 guys will bid the ER category but the bid is now open to 7000+ to bid if they want so I guess we will see what happens.

Since the current CVG 767 pilots are being displaced, do they get first crack at the 7ER positions in CVG? Or do they get thrown into the bidding pot with everyone else?

If they do get preferential bidding into the CVG ER category, than I think we will see very little movement into or out of CVG.

767 is the domestic 757/767 guys. They do not fly international. The 765 category is actually the 767-400 category, only in ATL I believe. They fly mostly international now, with a bit of Hawaii as I understand. The 7ER is the 757/767 international. The NYC 7ER category flies only international, and some of those trips are, for example, JFK-AMS-CVG-AMS-JFK because the CVG 757 pilots aren't trained for the international flying. The ATL 7ER category flies international and some domestic (mostly in the winter as I understand).

There are already international airplanes flying trips out of CVG - they are just flown by pilots from other bases. In the summer there is CVG-London, CVG-Rome, CVG-Paris, CVG-Amsterdam and CVG-Frankfurt. I think the Rome and Amsterdam are summer only.

I suspect that the CVG 7ER category will still fly the domestic stuff CVG used to fly (which is getting less I think), in addition to the international CVG stuff.
