So the question for those who know..........I bid upper 1/3 755B in MSP and want to bid into SLC320B. If I do a VD (to help some junior guy in MSP who may live there) do I bother to put in a percentage or just take what my seniority gives me when I get the award. Also, wouldn't I go to training later than if I would have just AEde into the position?

Ferd
Ferd,

Isn't it a new category? If so just use an AE. Put whatever percentage you want to hold it at. Did you say A320 A or B? Put in a percentage for both. The SLC 320B may go fairly junior, so you can use a VD, but back it up with an AE. And I believe AEs and VDs go at about the same time, but both go before MDs.

If you try to VD to a position with a percentage (like you--50%), but the junior guy in your category (close to the bottom MSP757B) cant hold the position at that percentage, you don't get it, do you?
No, you don't. Always back it up with an AE.

Sailing,

Agree 100%. As a lifelong commuter, I am all for anything that makes commuting easier. However, as someone who has commuted to NYC for 13 years, getting an open seat has NOT been a problem. The problem is that when things go bad, they go bad quickly and often for long periods of time. Thunderstorms in the summer, adverse winds in the fall, and snow in the winter create indefinite ground stops or Wheels Up times that are several hours in the future at all three airports. The problem isn't that there are no seats. The problem is that nothing is getting in there.

If we get postive space I'll vote for it, but it's unlikely to help NYC. I'd rather have help with more commutable trips which we have few of on my category.

A good rule of thumb is that your AE and VD lists should be identical. Not always, but it's generally the same idea.

Keeps things simpler, too.

Let me be the first to say that the ER lines around my seniority (76ish%) in NYC BLEW this month. Sad to see how things went downhill up there...

I can't imagine 6 commutes to that craphole!

There is alot of talk about how bad it is going to be in ATL with the new seniority list, but it is looking like it will be just as bad or worse out west, of course, little attention to that in this venue...

You are correct unfortunately. Until we grow out West (Feed ourselves instead of letting Alaska do it to "save money") there is no way a junior guy will be able to get out there. Kind of funny but a lot of Captains I fly with for some reason think that the West is "Junior"????? After I tell them I want SLC they mention how it is very "Junior" and how I will be able to hold it right away. They must be looking at the wrong seniority list but the feeling I get is that a lot of guys out East, for some reason think the West is Junior. Doesn't change anything but thought I would throw out that mentality that I sense from some guys I fly with.

I did not say total seats lost. I said widebody seats lost. You are correct on total seats lost. (Referring directly about ATL)

Not until you count Minnie as our west coast megahub, then even a junior puke like me can hold a line on the diesel9!

SLC is only good if you live within driving distance. If you commute, you'll find out quick that it's not as easy as it looks, and with the new 320 category, it's anybody's guess as to the commutability of the lines. LAX will gradually get senior even more, with more VD/MD from upcoming bids.

Ok Thanks.

We have the digital on the DC9 too, & at some point I'll most likely end up on the 88 & me trying to use the analog probably wouldn't go so well.

Chente, LAX IS very junior in the Captain's seats, which, frankly, is all most Captains look at. I could hold much better on the ER out there or on the 737-800 out there as compared to ATL. SLC, OTOH, is slightly more senior compared to ATL.
