Tsquare, sorry about the Vols. I always cheer for SEC teams in the bowls. My alma mater won, AF beat Houston quite handily. Unfortunately I was en route to NY from GRU all night. SDQ tomorrow, then I get to go home and reunite with a beautiful woman and 3 ornery children!

I see this as a good thing for us.

I'm no expert, but wouldn't this be bad for us? If all of JAL's route structure chops to ANA, then ANA's US partners stand to benefit at our expense.

JAL May Drop International Routes | AVIATION WEEK

I see this as a good thing for us. IE, it still kills any beyond flying AMR has out of Narita. Assuming we could react and fill the void.

Ferd

I agree with you Ferd. If this happens it would be a stunning development. Obviously our need to spend DAL cash on the JAL investment would disappear. ANA is still a powerful competitor, but the loss of JAL international would pull capacity out of the market. Then (hopefully) the rest of us could price our product based on cost. Imagine that.

While we're killing time waiting for Armageddon:

Went to the Peach Bowl last night. Hanging around STATS sports bar in Atlanta and got really sweet last minute tickets from a scalper for cheap. (excellent new bar right outside the Georgia Dome if you haven't been there)

Not a good night for the Vols. Their offense sucked. Their baton twirlers looked superb however. And the wife caught a beanie-baby cow parachuting into the crowd from a dirigible. Unfortunately, those were the Tennessee highlights.
Congrats to the Hokies.

Frank,

I guess you could look at it two ways. If JAL loses international routes then we could still use them as domestic feed to our Int'l flights. The other way would be we wouldn't spend the money but it would see the Star Alliance getting a huge gain.

Of course in the latter scenario, I would hope that the pending Antitrust Immunity being sought by the Star Alliance would be laughingly turned down since they would be the major player.

Just my quick pre-bid thoughts.
