I assume you mean 24 hours of short call because a "24 hour call out" means you could legally be home and drunk. :)

Probably the conversion of the 767 to a 7ER category in CVG?

If the rumors are true, tomorrow should be a big day in DAL world.
Some of it my be good and some of it not so much. It depends on how much is shared tomorrow..... |

I have heard both from a few sources. I know that to run the "current" 09 schedule we will need to hire. That may change and soon, but if we run what we have planned to run, 400 is a realistic number for both the DAL and NWA sides.
We previously were approved for 150 on the DAL side this year. The company has some major hurdles to jump over as it pertains to the other employee groups. Synergies need to happen and union votes need to occur. I can easily see status quo until that is over, but if that were to occur we would need to trim a lot of our schedule for next year. If you search travel net, our bookings over the Thanksgiving weekend are scary low. I was shocked to see that at two weeks out we were on average a 66% load factor. Now I did not check every flight, but I did check many cities, and the bookings were at least 10% below were they were this time last year. Fact is that people are not traveling. They are scared and they should be. DAL took a big bet with all of the international retooling for next summer, we will see if it will pay off. It should because it is done correctly, but one truly never knows until it is too late. If this stuff is announced tomorrow it could be both good and bad. I cannot say what will be announced, but there are two ways that it can go. It depends on what is being released. I am not sure what order it will go in. |
You should have your questions answered about the displacements any day. They are debating that on a day to day basis, as it has huge ramifications on no matter which way it is done.
I would make sure that you have your displacement bids in at all times. Heck you may get displaced somewhere fun. |

Okay, I’m going to make a maniacal and simplistic guess here and it is without consideration to the effects of the merger or new 777s and I’m basing it on if international schedules had no reductions and just simply the recently announced increases in flying for summer 09. And I’m thinking more of on the B side then A side here.
A CVG ER base would allow DAL to cut the amount of rotations that ATL/NYC ER crews do through CVG. Thus allowing DAL to cut ATL ER by say 50-80 or so positions (using the SIL numbers as a basis here) or whatever number makes the winter have proper staffing and not over staffing. These crews could be displaced to ER NYC (of even CVG) or to where they are needed most- ATL MD88 and maybe 73N or even our new domestic 757 base in Cape Verde. Now in the summer when you have the natural ER crew shortages, you just pull them out of CVG. Just a feeble mental exercise by someone who watched too much football. |
