I'm trying to decide if it would be better to bid a line or sit reserve during the busy months to maximize green slip pay. I would think that you may be able to make more money with a line, but would have less time off because you don't get the day back. If they are really short, maybe waiting for an inverse assignment would be the most profitable considering it's pay and credit for reserves. What do you DAL-S pilots think?
I put in a blanket greenslip request for the entire month with no trip preferences. I've seen two this year and both were for reports in under 2 hours and didn't pay very much. Basically stuff that guys senior to me didn't want so it got down to me. No IA calls got far enough up the list to get to me. I make more money bidding a line and white slipping good paying easy trips when they show up. If the reserve numbers are really low, I'll pull the WS and hope for a GS which usually doesn't happen. |

"Sorry guys, in my attempt to talk about the company trying to bash the FA's, I kind of fell back on those old pre-merger days where we kept saying NWA is shrinking into oblivion, while DAL is buying an all new fleet. Really both sides were and are shrinking some and growing some. I'll do better next time. And Carl, you're the coolest!" Now was THAT so hard. Carl Sheesh - I have to do everything around here. |

Guys,
Two discussions going on (at least): only the second is worth it. As for the first, I found the "Ignore" feature under CP User > Buddy/Ignore List. ... Keenster,

Just a small point, DAL-N guys have seen both sides of the coin so we may have some valid points that might help improve things for everyone in the future. Just for the record, the IT side of DAL is really really bad and we could get schedule and flight logs on 1 page that you have to go to about 4 different places to get and get a pile of pages to duplicate what you culd get on one page. Just one example. So it might be worth having an open mind to some of the ideas that the north guys can bring to the table, it might just make your life better. I for one hope to improve the contract on the next go around AND AM REALLY TIRED OF THE HOLYER THAN THOU ATTITUDE THAT THE ONLY WAY IS THE DAL WAY AND SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP. That is not meant to be offensive to anyone, I just want to make things better. Good luck to us all.
1) DAL's way isn't the best way. It's just the way it's being done right now. 2) There is not a pilot that sees a new procedure, and adapts without comment. It's only normal that changing an entire way of doing things would entail a lot of comments. We should be more patient and understanding as you get used to the new system. 3) 2 doesn't negate 1. 4) 3 doesn't mean the system as a whole can't be improved. You guys have brought up some very valid points. For example, there are a number of IT issues that I think are awful, but really never second-guessed. Until now. Thanks. 5) 4 doesn't mean it should happen today. North guys like to say they know what's best because they have compared. Good for you. And sure enough, I'm sure a North and South guy, living under one system, will agree on a best practice. But just as you can't accept the notion Delta's practice is the best possible, we (sorry) can't agree that you're the new instant experts on both sides of the fence. Let's work together, then we'll talk. 6) Luckily, that's exactly what's happening. The company didn't pick the ultimate best procedures, they picked the fastest way to SOC. They are interested in improving (with their resources) the system. The union is systematically talking about how to make sure the company doesn't go for a "middle ground" that "accidentally" hurts the pilots. This will be worked out, with your input, and mine. 7) There are a number things I want the company to do, in the course of improving business practices, but my focus isn't on changing company procedures. I want compensation, and I want QOL. Any effort applied to the procedure side of the equation is an effort not applied on my wallet. I hope we ultimately craft a (much) better contract for ourselves, and (as a secondary consideration) operate according to the best practices available, in the safest, most comfortable environment possible. Sincerely, "Sink r8" |

I agree, and as I have stated who cares how we fly it. I care how we are payed, scheduled etc to fly it. |
