Since this always makes the f-NWA folks mad, don't get angry at me. I'm just reporting the data, as the Company reports it to the DOT.

Both airlines have been effected by the downturn in our economy, although the effect on Northwest Airlines has been more pronounced.

A guess would be that one reason Delta does not need aircraft is because our combined fleet (and staffing) is under utilized in some areas and could be better optimized. That's also what management is telling us.

I'm pretty pleased it didn't take a huge dump (yet) after the last earnings conference call. Big D is going to have to start making money one of these days or investors are going to think Delta is just spending money and shuffling airplanes to churn stock.

I sold all of mine for $13.10. I can live with that. Airline stocks always go down long term.

JAL dumps alliance with American Airlines in favor of Delta, SkyTeam
(Mainichi Japan) January 28, 2010

Japan Airlines (JAL) decided Wednesday to dump its partnership with American Airlines and its Oneworld alliance in favor of Delta and the SkyTeam group of carriers.

American together with a private equity firm had offered to invest $1.4 billion in JAL and strengthen cooperation between the two airlines, but JAL judged an alliance with Delta -- the world's largest airline -- would produce greater benefits.

The partnership with Delta will be officially announced by new JAL Chairman Kazuo Inamori on Monday.

To solidify the new alliance, JAL intends to apply to the Japanese and U.S. governments for antitrust immunity. The airline is also examining strengthening its international network with new routes from Narita International Airport to Detroit -- the hub for Northwest Airlines, acquired by Delta last year -- and from Haneda Airport to Amsterdam's Schiphol, SkyTeam partner KLM's home airport.

Delta and JAL cover many of the same routes, allowing the two airlines to better efficiency through schedule and fare collaboration. According to estimates by the state-backed Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp. of Japan (ETIC) -- overseeing JAL's restructuring process -- if JAL obtains antitrust immunity, the benefits of the Delta partnership could rise to some 17.2 billion yen. Even if the JAL-Delta deal does not receive immunity, the new partnership will result in benefits of around 9.2 billion yen -- still a significant jump from the 5.4 billion yen realized through the alliance with American.

Delta had previously offered a total $1.02 billion in financial support to JAL, including $500 million in new investment. As the leader in rebuilding the airline, however, ETIC apparently inclined to the belief that foreign financing was unnecessary for recovery, and elected to restrict any involvement with Delta to business collaboration.

Sorry FTB... but here is yet another unsubstantiated press quote with absolutely no corroberation. (did I spell that right?). Deep breath.... sorry, I'll let it go, ad not respond to any more quoted press releases that have little if anything to do with reality. I still love ya man, but not in that way... :D

For cripes sakes I would be making more than an 88A!! Heck almost as much as a 20 year 767A does today. Just plain nutso!

There is no difference between a 12 year 76A and a 20 year 76A... FWIW. Just another stupid thing about airline pay that hasn't changed since Wlbur and Orvil.

The crew schedueling planning guy said everything in the tone of "this is what we're thinking will happen now, but..."

He really didn't give any indication of how large, or if it would supplement or replace the 330 base.

He did say we are currently "right sized" for summer '10 flying, as presented to them by network with their "flat" yoy capacity. He said that the "flat" capacity plans did result in about a 5% yoy block hour increase.

If you feel that the quote I included in my post from "FlyingViking" wasn't a personal attack, then I only have two words for you.

SEA --- NILE. <intentionally spelled that way as to not offend the almighty 747 Captain who feels that there is room for a "lack of integrity" amongst our profession in negotiations with management.

FIRE AWAY. I'm sure I've seen worse in my 19 years of military service.

Vikings Fan

I see you're new here. Folks have used the "senile" comment a number of times before - mostly when they are out of ideas.

Unfortunately, there are always people who display a lack of integrity in negotiations with management. Others have pointed out better than I how a small group of our own members dutifully report to management after union meetings, spy for management, and ultimately cross the picket line for management. So understand something: there is not only "room for a lack of integrity", there is a history of it. It is generally amongst a very small number, but it always shows up.

Again, I am not firing away at you - especially someone who has defended our nation for 19 years. I'm just cautioning you against criticizing someone's spelling, while you misuse words in the very same statement. It would be like me saying that our Saipan tour guide (Ferd) has no luck with women - when everyone knows I couldn't get lucky in a female prison with a fist full of pardons.

Two, BOD is in OCT so you may get your wish on that too. My question is who do you want to tell your reps to elect?

I'm at a disadvantage there ACL because I don't know any of the fDAL guys, so I'm flying blind.

I will say that anyone elected should pledge the following:

1. The MEC Chairman WILL NOT be anything other than a non-voting guy who runs meetings and gives general guidance and advice to the voting members of the MEC.

2. Will recall any MEC Chairman who behaves in contradiction to the above.

3. The MEC must use its years and years of management cooperation as leverage to achieve THE INDUSTRY LEADING contract by no later than the amendable date of our current contract. Even if it is just a percentage point above Southwest, it must be industry leading.

4. Begin the process NOW of preparing our members for the possibility of self help in the case management disagrees.

I can't say this for sure, becuase I don't know any of the current crop of fDAL guys, but the above mandates would seem to disqualify nearly every one of the current members.

+1 Well said Carl.

I won't sling poo DALPAs way (at least not too hard), but "battle tested" is not the correct description - maybe more accurate would be that they have had a successful "staff tour".

DALPA has extracted modest gains since BK (COLA), but I'd like to see DALPA LEVERAGE its opportunities more effectively. Right now we only have rumors of growth, synergies, hiring, JAL JV, etc.

Looking through the milky window of the locked candy store, I'm interested in how we can end up with a bag full of candy. We have already paid for it. Seems to me there's currently about $1.1B that Delta just cannot wait to un-ass. I'd be happy to give them my bank routing number.

+1 dude...+1.
