Heyas ACL,

LOL, they already tried. Went up to ATL and looked around up north a bit, and they were basically giving away houses. I saw a couple model homes that would have been $700-800K a few years ago ABANDONED and the housing development nothing but weeds and gas pipes sticking up (and this place wasn't the only one).

A lot of these homes are permanently ruined because they've had the AC and electricity off for months and months in the Atlanta heat.

At one place up on the north side, they practically BEGGED me to buy. "$800k dollar house! On sale for $450k, but if you wave $300k at the builder, I'm SURE he'll go for it". And no, that's not my normal hyperbole, but a real conversation I had with an agent. And this development was a going concern, too.

It overlooked some nice Georgia pine, but it had about 5,000 square feet more than I could have ever used and you could have played volleyball in the master bath. But the drive to the airport reminded me of a combination of demolition derby, rugby scrum and 24 hour road rally. No thanks.

Next time look South. It is better. I have a few acres and really nice neighbors. Not the 800K Mc Mansions, but houses in the upper 200's to low 500's. Nice area, and the shopping and restaurants are not great, but they are not bad. Plus, I am 40 miles away and about 1 hr from my garage to the sign in computer.

But for you, Yes, ATL sucks!

Where is dis you speak of......in my best Russian accent!

There are a ton of neighborhoods like that up on the North side. Problem is that it will probably be at least 10 years before they are built out, so if you buy you better be comfortable.

Heyas ACL,

Yea, I looked at the south side, too. Not much going on there either. Ya gots yer Lowe's (or Home Despot), your Kroger's and your Waffle House, and that's about it.

I was thinking more along the lines of Macon, but I understand the drive has become a bear (it used to be 55 minutes from North Macon to the airport).

Hmmm.. the elusive Maconga.

I'm in Grayson on the northeast side of town...about 20 minutes south of the Mall of GA. Takes me about 55 minutes to an hour to get into work, but you don't have to own a tractor and fly a rebel flag like ACL does. :D

Anyone want to do a house trade? You can have mine in the west suburbs of Atlanta, for yours in Western Wisconsin just over the Saint Criox river. River Falls would be nice.

LOL...if I had a dollar for every time I was asked where "NOLA" was, I could retire.
